The mining and smithing rework looks nice in some ways. It also destroys a bit of our work i think, atleast for mining. No more clicking on a single coal rock with multiple players to get a single coal ore, or waiting for ore to return. Players can't test the beta very well, because they can only do that at their current levels. After playing/testing the beta i sense more rework in the future for some skill(s), because of the mobile version?

I just checked out the M & S "rework" and it screws skillers massively. You did exactly what I knew you were going to do to us.

What did you do wrong...
1) You dropped the price of the metal gear we already had. Including a massive drop to regular rune items.
2) You made the new metals complicated and more time consuming.
3) You didn't even bother to make the new gear a good price.

Thank you for throwing my money making method out the window.

All jagex cares about is fighters and bossers. Well I am a skiller, I refuse to be forced into fighting just to make money on the game!!!

This is why you should have left it alone. If you had added the new items without changing anything else that would have been fine. All you had to do is add new items with higher prices than previous rune. That way we still had the option of making money off skilling, But no, you can't let skillers make money that just looks bad. Instead you have done everything in your ability to force us into combat. Well it won't work. Skillers are skillers, fighters are fighters and nothing you can do will change that but you will force skillers off the game. If you want to make it a fighter game, just do it already!

When mining pure essence. can you add in the chance to gather 2 essence at once like how you do for other ore at a higher mining level? Also would it be a good idea to have something such as the ability to dual wield pickaxes so you have the option to gather ore more quickly? this could be useful if your mining pure essence.

Stop the madness!!!! Cut your losses and wasted time on this crappy mining and smithing rework. All you had to do was fill in the gaps in between levels. Not destroy the entire way mining and smithing worked. This is EOC all over again except with mining and smithing. A lot of people gave you a chance and stuck around with that huge blunder. You remember how many people you lost over that little fiasco? Well count on it again...…. but sadly this time people will not be as forgiving as they were with EOC...….
Guess its time to get back on the OSRS wagon again.... I suggest everyone that still enjoys the game start leveling your OSRS account.

Not sure if this has been thought about but while using the grace of the elves neck skilling i have often got many runeplate body's, if i rember rite they will be replaced with shards of equal value.

Where skillers can now also access the rare drop why not instead replace the rune items on rare drops to the rune tokens that was used in the m/s beta so the trader npc has a long term use for pvm & skillers.

2) You made the new metals complicated and more time consuming.
3) You didn't even bother to make the new gear a good price.

1. Rune items have been overinflated for YEARS due to the fact that their high-alch value was based on the archaic idea that T50 was either high(est) tier or middle tier.
We're now seventeen years into Runite Equipment and it is one of the most heavily artificially-inflated items in the game simply due to its high alchemy price.

2. Because people asked for depth in skilling and meaningful items to use instead of being a factory for trashy metal items that are barely even worth high-alching.

3. They have an estimation of Elder Rune being around 25k a bar.
That's double the price of a runite bar AND it puts a +5 Elder Rune Platebody at about 4,000,000 GP.
Considering you can make that platebody in less than an hour and it takes about twice as long to mine the materials than it takes to smith it, I'd estimate that at around... 1.5m/hr? Ish?

By comparison, Rune 2h Swords will only make you profit on a Portable Forge, and only if it's:
A. Not your forge (300k/hr with no other boosts)
B. Not your forge with the scroll of efficiency (1.1m/hr with no other boosts)
C. Not your forge with a scroll of efficiency and a crystal hammer (1.9m/hr with no other boosts)

Using all boosts available, it barely breaks 2m/hr.

The best melee sets in the game, Masterwork and Trimmed Masterwork, are also NOT degrade to dust and can only be repaired through smithing either via a currently unknown method that most likely involves similar materials (for base Masterwork) or reforging the entirety of a basic masterwork set and using it on the trimmed set (for trimmed masterwork).

Overall, this entire update has actually pulled a lot of gp away from PvM.

Okay I'm looking for the answer to a simple question that I can't seem to find any where...

What is going to happen to ores/bars and armour/weapons people already have when the update is released? Are they going to be changed into something else or left the same or what?

Ores and bars are remaining as is.

Weapons and armor from steel to rune are being turned into tokens that you can redeem for equipment OR the new salvage, on what equates to a 1:1 ratio.

Salvage will be better if you wanted to disassemble or high-alch your gear.
The option to “keep” your gear remains if you were intending to use that for other purposes.

the new armors are super ugly unfortunately. no reason not to keep using classics like bandos/anima core.

jagex needs to hire new artwork people and designers.

the whole reason this update fails again for a veteran player like me is after 10 years theres still no incentive to train smithing or mining.

my mining/smithing level has been high 70s-low 80s since like 2008. i came back this year, still no good way to train it apart from the occasional quest prerequisites where i just grind it quickly to do the quest.

these new items and this new system doesnt change that. i wont be training mining or smithing anymore than i have in the past decade. rune still looks better than any of the stuff shown.
