Important Information

You're ready to start learning how to make your very own signature! Each post has its very own guide on how to both make and improve signatures. Before you get started however please note the following:
››
All signatures must follow the Code of Conduct
››
Stealing signatures is not classy. Be classy to the end!
››
Buying/selling signatures for in-game wealth is NOT allowed
››
Any and all ASCII art, that aren't signatures, belong here
››
Not all characters will display on the forums
››
Forum signatures look different based on the browser you are using
››
The current font is Museo Sans 500

In regards to the forum font when creating signatures it's advised to begin making your signature in a word processor; set this to the font above. If the forum times-out you may lose your signature if you don't have it saved elsewhere.

The Official Signature Feature

You may use the official signature feature by going to your profile and scrolling down to the bottom. This will add your signature into all of your posts automatically! You may however manually place a signature in your post if you wish. The official signature feature is limited to 300 characters, which is better for smaller signatures.

Letters, Text & Characters

To start off, you'll want to think of some text for your signature. It could be a famous quote, a line from a song, or something else entirely. It's up to you!

I feel the relapse
Can't break free

^
Here we have a line from the song
Octavarium
. Pretty cool, right?

Ï ƒêel †hë rèlãpše
Çâñ'† bréäk ƒreë

Even cooler! What I've done here is simply use this chart to replace the letters with other letters that look similar. It creates a cool effect.

You don't necessarily have to mimic what I've done. There are different styles. You could stick to one style, or you could mix them up a bit.

The four main styles are normal, clean, messy, and leet
.
››
Normal text looks like this.
››
Ç|éäñ †ê׆ Ìðókš |ìkê †híš.
››
/\/\€§$¥ ‡£×† £øð|‹§ |¡|{€ ‡|-|¡$.
››
|_337 73><7 10()|<5 1!|‹3 7|-|15.

 míx òf clëañ ànd ñðrmål |oökš lîke †hís. A /\/\î× óƒ ©l€àñ å/Vd m€š§ý £ðókš |ïk£ †/-/îš. @ /\/\1× 0|= 1€3† 4/V|) /¥\3§$¥ £0()|‹§ |_!|{€ ‡|-|1$.

In the example, I used clean with a bit of normal.

Generally speaking, if there isn't a clean letter available, normal is used. If there isn't a messy letter available, use clean. If there isn't a leet letter available, use messy.

Learning Basic Waves

Waves are a vital part to a lot of signatures. They are very simple to make!

How to make a basic wave in 5 steps

¸_,„.±@+×½¾¼=‹«¬¤•·-–—~ªº^™*°¹²³“"‘'ˆ˜`¨¯¨´˜ˆ'’"”³²¹°*™^ºª~—–-·•¤¬»›=¼¾½×+@±.„,_¸

1.
Find a very low symbol from the all-character wave above (e.g. _ or ¸ ) :

¸

2.
Join the low symbol up with a slightly higher symbol (e.g. , or „ or . ) :

¸„

3.
Steadily add symbols slightly higher than the previous one until you have about 2 or 3 high symbols (e.g. ˆ or ˜ ) :

¸„+*ˆ

4.
You now have a half wave! Flip your half wave, 1 character at a time, in order to obtain a whole wave. Some characters look different backwards; use the mirrored version on the other side of the all-character wave:

¸„+*ˆˆ*+„¸

5.
Make sure your wave flows and does not look bumpy or jagged. Simply copy and paste the wave a few times:

¸„+*ˆˆ*+„¸¸„+*ˆˆ*+„¸¸„+*ˆˆ*+„¸¸„+*ˆˆ*+„¸

^
Doesn't that flow like the ocean on a slightly breezy day?

Different wave combinations

There are many, many different ways to make a wave.

¸,.‹°´˜`°›.,¸¸,.‹°´˜`°›.,¸¸,.‹°´˜`°›.,¸

¸¸,+*ˆ¨¨ˆ*+,¸¸¸,+*ˆ¨¨ˆ*+,¸¸¸,+*ˆ¨¨ˆ*+,¸¸

^
Take a look at these waves. Their symbols are completely different, but flow just fine. Play around with different symbols, see what works best.

Please
do not
copy any of the example waves in this post (other than the all-character wave), try to create your own.

Signature Alignment

Does something not look right about your signature? You'll want to make sure that your signature is aligned correctly if it spans across more than one line. You can test this through posting it on the forums. Identify if there's any problems, such as a line doesn't meet another. Adding more characters to one line can help here.

Signatures can look unaligned depending on the use of fillers, letters, or the alignment bbcodes. Here's an example of an unaligned signature:

¸„»°'´¸„»°'´ Iceberg `'°«„¸`'°«„¸
`'°«„¸¸„»°'´¸„»°'´`'°«„¸ I Just Lost the Game ¸„»°'´`'°«„¸`'°«„¸¸„»°'´

If this happens - don't panic; it's actually quite easy to fix. For the example above I designed the signature with the centre tag in mind, so let's add that in:

¸„»°'´¸„»°'´ Iceberg `'°«„¸`'°«„¸
`'°«„¸¸„»°'´¸„»°'´`'°«„¸ I Just Lost the Game ¸„»°'´`'°«„¸`'°«„¸¸„»°'´

Whilst the above example looks like a decent signature, you can also use dots or shading (mentioned below) to help align your signature. Remember though, whatever you do to the one side make sure to do to the other! Whether you change a few characters or add/remove dots or spaces, the key point is to take your time, and re-arrange slightly if necessary. Here's the finished product!

¸„»°'´¸„»°'´
. . . . . .
Iceberg
. . . . . .
`'°«„¸`'°«„¸
`'°«„¸¸„»°'´¸„»°'´`'°«„¸
I Just Lost the Game
¸„»°'´`'°«„¸`'°«„¸¸„»°'´

Notice that I used dots to push the diagonal lines on the top away from the text? I copied + pasted the dots that I did on the left side onto the right. If you end up with one side having a few too many characters, you'll push the alignment off.

Shading Your Signatures

Shading has two purposes in a signature. One of those purposes is to give a signature some definition. The other purpose of shading can be used to help with aligning a signature (as mentioned earlier on in the guide)

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
................ˆ°¤,¸

We can see that some dots have been used to fill in the space in order for the wave to continue onto the next line. There's more to shading than just dots though! Here's the way that shading is generally ordered:

. . . .....::::;;;;::::..... . . .

Applying the shading to the wave you can produce results such as:

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
. . . . . . . . ˆ°¤,¸

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
......:::..... ˆ°¤,¸

Note:
It's important to remember that if you wish to replace shading then you need to use the exact same amount of characters as the previous shading.

Here's where it now gets more-interesting. You can use colours for your shading too! It's advisable to make your shading dark with colour tags such as
[black]
. Let's compare the small wave with and without the shading:

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
................ˆ°¤,¸

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
................
ˆ°¤,¸

See the difference?

The Finished Wave:

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
....::::........
ˆ°¤,¸

¸,¤°ˆˆ°¤,¸
....::::........
ˆ°¤,¸

The shading now looks much better, especially with the colour!

Formatting on the Forums

¸_,„.±@+×½¾¼=‹«¬¤•·-–—~ªº^™*¹²³°“"‘'ˆ˜`¨¯¨´˜ˆ'’"”°³²¹*™^ºª~—–-·•¤¬»›=¼¾½×+@±.„,_¸

On the forums there are currently 4 different formatting tools (excluding colours) that can be used to further-enhance signatures. Most artists will use an all character wave to aid with signature making and ASCII art.

Copy + Paste the wave above and apply the following tags:

[b][/b]
[i][/i]
[u][/u]
[s][/s]

Note:
It is highly recommended to use the preview post button to ensure that all BBCode is correct. If not then all tags will be visible on posting.

............ ;`. .... ·´ˆ`· ........ ; ............ Iceberg ................. ; ... ·´ˆ`· ........... ;`........
............ ; . ` .. ',¸¸ ,' ........ ; ........ Also Known ............. ; ... ',¸¸ ,' .......... ; . `.....
.....·´ˆ`· ............. ; .. ·´ˆ`· ................ As ............... ·´ˆ`· .......... ; .::. ·´ˆ`·..........
.....',¸¸ ,' ............. ; .. ',¸¸ ,' ... Musical Lettuce ... ',¸¸ ,' .......... ; .:.. ',¸¸ ,'..........

Notice how much of a difference the bold tool has on the last line of this signature? Bold in particular also affects colour. Notice how
THIS
is harder to read than
THAT
? The only difference is bold has been used!

It's good to use formatting wherever you can in signatures; you can experiment with existing characters to see what you can make. Just be aware of the character limit though!

Forum Colours

Colours bring forum signatures to life! There are some standard colours available on the Colour button on each post. There are actually over a hundred colours to choose from!
››
Colours in alphabetical order here
››
Colours in colour order here

Before using colours however here are a few things to bear in mind:

››
Some colours don't go well together and some look bad against the forum background.
››
BBCode tags take up many characters, best not to go overboard!

You can blend or simply match up complementing colours together. The possibilities are endless. For example:

Advanced Waves

Strikethroughs/loops look great in borders and are not that hard to make!

1. First, make a basic wave, and then reverse it on the next line:
¸,•º´`º•,¸
`º•,¸¸,•º´

2. Line up the reversed wave so it flows together with the first wave:
¸,•º´`º•,¸
..............`º•,¸¸,•º´

3. Make a small wave on the first line, lined up with the end of the reversed wave:
¸,•º´`º•,¸.......¸•°•,
..............`º•,¸¸,•º´

4. Add a semicolon on the second line, lined up with the beginning of the small wave. Replace the comma with it:
¸,•º´`º•,¸.....¸•°•,
..............`º•;¸¸,•º´

5. Finally, finish off the strikethrough with a wave on the third line, connecting to the semicolon:
¸,•º´`º•,¸.....¸•°•,
..............`º•;¸¸,•º´
.................. '.,¸¸,.‹^'¨

Remember: Strikethroughs can be made differently:
¸,•°´`°•¸
...... ,›°°·',.¸
...... '›,¸¸,' . `›,¸¸,'

Any way you like; don't be afraid to experiment!

1-Lined Strikethroughs/Loops

1-lined strikethroughs are not easy to make...

1. Create half of a wave, with spaces between each symbol
¸ , • ° ' ´

2. Add more high symbols to the end of the wave plus a mid symbol:
¸ , • ° ' ´ * ¹ ›

3: Add a low symbol replacing the space next to the mid symbol:
¸ , • ° ' ´ * ¹,›

4: Make a separate wave using the spaces, and make the symbols the opposite height of the current part of the wave:
¸ , •`› ,´¸*¸¹,›
