F2P Only DMM?

I'm an old school player returning (or trying to return) to a game I once loved as a teenager. I'm not some random DDosser / new player, I've racked up at least 2 years of in-game time alone, not counting the countless hours/days/years spent on clan forums, RSC. I have built success off-line with e-commerce (not to brag, just trying to give some weight behind the following suggestion), I have met some Jagex Mods IRL and dedicated half of my teenage years to clanning in this game.

One thing I believe would bring activity back into the Clan World:

- Implementing F2P only DMM season(s).
(mainly as a means of collecting data for future F2P PvP updates / a means of bringing old players back to the game)

One thing I've noticed is the F2P multi PKing / warring is no longer active. Previously, F2P warring used to far surpass P2P in terms of popularity - for good reason. The skill gap is far smaller and thus more people can get involved, it's easier to participate in and learn, you can tank/survive for longer and it's a lot cheaper. During peak clanning in 2007 there were around 50+ clans, each with 60-200 members each, with wars occurring daily: mini wars, planned full-out wars, unplanned uncapped PKRIs, planned capped PKRIs...etc.

This facet of Runescape catered to the "gamer with a life" - you didn't need a huge bank to participate, communities were built as more players were invested in the game and there was almost always a fight / war occuring between numerous clans. Almost all of these players had school, work, parties to attend - events outside of gaming, whilst F2P warring didn't require them to dedicate their entire lives to the game. I know a lot of people (100+) - myself included, that would play this game a lot more and enjoy the gaming experience a lot more if multi-way F2P PvP action was still a facet of Clanning.

Even the recently retired Mod Mat K was involved in the Clan World and a part of the peak clanning era back in 07.

Returning to essentially the same game, 12 years later, and there are about 4 clans left - none of which participate in F2P PvP. Now I'm unsure of the current v previous player base numbers but at first glance they aren't too far off and with the implementation of mobile it seems to be growing.

Whilst I could sit here and type out countless potential updates, such as:
- Re-implementing corrupt armour for F2P
- Better F2P wilderness bosses / spawns
- Increase effectiveness of protection prayers (to combat the 3x3 box style fights that drove everyone away from F2P PvP in OSRS)
- Re-releasing dungeoneering
- Removing the ability to use F keys

I'm not going to bother as the implementation of such updates are so rare.

I know there's a lot more to Runescape now than there was back then. You can PvM more, you can skill and quest more and there are 0 strictly F2P players. But the underlying theme when talking to players who used to play the game (some of which still do / have recently returned) is that they miss F2P wars and the 07 style clanning scene.

The current Clan World needs an ice age to be able to re-start and return to its former glory. The old school players who now play other games would return in droves with a resurgence in F2P warring - especially with prior notice *email blast*, whilst the new OSRS players that never experienced F2P warring, should be offered that opportunity.

One way this seems extremely viable is if an F2P version of DMM was implemented. You can give away GP instead of cash prizes, or divy the cash prizes up so they're less top heavy...irrespective of this, I'm confident it would be a success and could potentially unite a broken/toxic Clan World.

You could use the feedback from the players who make it far within the F2P version of DMM, to implement changes into the main game...however the issues of exclusivity as well as skill and time requirements (barriers to entry) currently prevent players from experiencing multi-way PvP as they should:

(RSB Clan/Open CC -> Organized Clan -> Top Tier Clan / Creating their own clan) and has stunted the growth of the Clan World.
