Sup,

I may have an unpopular opinion on scaming, luring, ect, and I'm genuinely curious as to what other people think.

I started playing Runescape in 2003, and have played on and off since. Getting scammed, lured into the wildy, killed by randoms may have been upsetting but they were a right of passage for new players.

I personally loaaathe the anti-scamming, anti-luring mentality set up by whoever is running jagex now. The wilderness wall, the randoms no longer attack, and the flashy exclamation marks when you trade (ok maybe those are ok). It all just makes me feel like I'm playing Neopets or something.

To be clear I don't think I've tried luring anyone into the wild since 2003, and was never into "doubling money" or pulling items out of the trade window even when I was 12. But I think having the ability to do those things adds excitement to the game?

So what do other people think?

If Jagex voted to remove the wildy wall and make randoms agro again how would you vote?

For what its worth, the players have already spoken on both of those things through the polls:

- Random Events were polled in August, 2014, as seen in this developer blog. Of the 32,304 players that voted, 86.6% of them (27,957) voted for the proposed change to random events.

- The wilderness ditch has been polled numerous times over the course of Old School RuneScape, the most recent poll for it being this past February. In that poll, an overwhelming majority of players expressed that they were not in favor of removing the ditch. The prior polls also failed to attain the 75% majority vote necessary to make the change.

As for my personal thoughts, I'd say things are fine the way they are right now. Even if randoms aren't dangerous, you can still participate in any of the ones you want to, which keeps the old school feel around, and the ditch is still extremely easy to cross if you truly want to enter the wilderness and makes it clear where the safe area ends and the dangerous area begins.

After all, retaining new players means those new players will spread the word about the game and lead to even more new players. Changing things back and causing new players who end up falling victim to a scam or lure only causes them to leave, and that's no good.

You realize that autoclickers of all sorts only got out of control once dangerous randoms left the game, right? Don't get me wrong. I thought they were pointless nuisances too, but once they were gone I realized that it was more than just botting. This actually surprises me that you don't know this judging from some of the other things you've posted on these forums to give yourself the reputation and credibility of being knowledgeable. Or would you just rather every type of autoclicker such as cannons at ogres and whatnot be manually resolved?

Oh and I forgot to mention how they discouraged efficiencyscape if anyone cares about that. I personally don't give a nubnub if everyone wants to be hyperefficient like me, but others seem to give some importance for that. Personally, I think what blew that out of proportion is third party clients although dangerous randoms removal and the GE started it.

As far as scamming is concerned, I get your point. It makes perfect sense. You wanna toughen up your playerbase and not have nubnubs who cry over everything. Coming from someone who got scammed for his Twisted Bow like 2 weeks ago lol.

Harmful randoms were removed because the bots learned how to overcome them. They weren't doing the job they were intended to do and would only be harmful to new or inattentive players. And annoying new players only serves to drive them away from the game. As much as I'd like to loot dead bots again, it's pointless to keep content that works against growing the player base.

Refer to my point earlier. Anyone who thinks it was about stopping bots is delusional.
