For those of you who have never tried for the rare armour perk Scavenging 3, or perhaps have not even heard of it, let me throw some quick numbers your way. It is estimated, by other players smarter than I, that Scav 3, with 120 Invention and an extreme Invention pot is about a 1 in 1000 roll. That roll is made with 5 Precious components and one armour gizmo. That's up to 5000 Precious components per Scav 3, and most items only disassemble for a 3-10% chance of giving a Precious component, even with a 120 Cape. That's about 20 items dis'd per component, meaning you need around 100k items to disassemble PER SCAV 3! Ignoring the cost of components for the gizmo, this gets expensive very quickly when buying items to dis from the GE. (runewiki has lovely charts displaying all the costs associated with obtaining such components if anyone cares to look for themselves)

Luckily for us, there was a nice little daily grind that allowed people to go for Scav 3 without huge investment. Rings of Slaying. Pick up a few daily gems from the Slayer master, drop a portable forge, smith some rings, and disassemble! Nice and easy.

But now, a key element of the system is gone: the portable forge. Gone are the days of dropping a forge next to the bank for quick access, gone are the days of taking forges to Player Owned Farms to buy and sell animals while making my rings. Now I must RUN (yes, actually move my character), from a bank to a forge in an isolated area.

All jokes aside, the thing that truly bothers me about this is the significant decrease in my rings crafted per hour. This was already a LENGTHY process (I've been at it for 3 months now), and now it's been slowed even more.

TL;DR -- Please find an alternative for crafting jewellery. There is no reason for it to be tied to Smithing forges anymore. And if it's portable, all the better. Hell, add a mini smelter to the portable crafter. Copy/paste some code and it's done. Nice and easy.

As an ironman who made 10,000+ slayer rings without portable forges, my sympathy is limited to be honest. That said, you can now make twice as many rings per inventory, since you don't have to carry the bars with you. I doubt this has really affected speeds all that much considering how close to a bank many forges are.

Pretty sure with the smelting gauntlets and a inv full of gems, the running from bank to furnace in the artisans workshop shouldn't be that much time added

How do Smelting Gauntlets speed up crafting of Rings of Slaying? They do not appear to do anything at all in this case.

Regardless, it is significantly slower. A portable forge allowed crafting 14 rings every 26 seconds. This method, at the Edgeville forge (because it is fewer steps from the bank than the Artisan's forge) crafts 28 rings in nearly 70 seconds. That's a 34.6% increase in crafting time.

When we're talking about potentially 25k rings or so, that's significant. In fact, it's an increase of over 4.4 hours of crafting time.

Smelting Gauntlets merely make smelting ore into bars faster. It doesn't actually improve time for the actual crafting done.

We'll have to see if they make changes to the Portable Crafter, but this is what we have for now I'm afraid.

Wonderer-you are correct. The new M&S makes jewelry production a dream. The bank is close enough and bars now in metal box allows the making of 28 at one time. Way more efficient then forges
