Quite impossible as RS works on a tile-based point-and-click movement system and Jagex prides themselves on weekly updates.

Consoles don't get any of this in any efficient manner.

PS4 has full keyboard and mouse support if it's turned on so technically it could be played on ps4, not sure about the Xbone.

There's still the problem of console update certification.

Behind the scenes, RuneScape can't be first person because most objects aren't modeled beyond a top-down view.
That is to say, if you angle your camera upward in an area that should normally have a lot of... lets say "underbelly" to it, you get nothing but clear skybox.

It would take noticeably more power and work to fully model buildings and environments with a first-person camera involved, not to mention you'd lose most of your situational awareness (i.e. where attacks are coming from, what enemies/objects are around you, etc.).

I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy it, but...

And scaling up RuneScape has been a hot topic for a long while.

The long and short of it is:

Scaling up the world, as various people have described and suggested in this thread would be a huge project - not only would it require a complete redrawing and designing of the whole world but it would have enormous knock on effects to the balance and economics of the world. As such it is highly unlikely to be something we would work on in the foreseeable future.

It's on their radar, they know that a good portion of the community would appreciate an overall larger world but the resource requirement alone to scale up the currently existing game world would be immense, and they've said if they did do it they don't want to just pack filler forests in between settlements and call it good.

The best response we've had so far is that future continents (or new areas of gameplay) would most likely be contenders for "scaling up", but it's still somewhat low probability.
