Steelweaversaid: Quite impossible as RS works on a tile-based point-and-click movement system and Jagex prides themselves on weekly updates.
Consoles don't get any of this in any efficient manner.
Actually it isn't impossible given there have been games that've updated on a weekly basis or sometimes even more frequently. Plus the tile system can be worked around with either mouse support, AC: O style cursors or even a Diablo III style rework.
So it's definitely not impossible to pull off. But I definitely don't see Jagex attempting to port RS onto home consoles this generation of or even next generation of consoles. Especially since there will be no benefit to either the players or Jagex if RS did get a port. The statement below is false.
The statement above is true.

The amount of work that would require is... ridiculous. The entire game would have to be re-made from scratch. Almost nothing would be usable.
An alternative would be to make a spin-off game. Maybe set in the 2nd age, right after Zaros gets his ass handed to him. A choice can be given to the player: Join Zaros' allies to fight back against Saradomin's, and Zamorak's forces, or side with Saradomin/Zamorak, to wipe out Zaros' Empire for good. This would require a non-canon victory ending in case the player goes Team Zaros, but that's hardly an issue. Likely a single-player game as well, but again, not a big deal. And of course, this is all hypothetical.
Come to think of it, there are many major events in Runescape's Lore that we barely got to see in some cutscenes and dialogue boxes, if at all. There's many that could potentially be fleshed out this way. Would be quite interesting. Though, a console game in this day and age, with Gamecube-quality graphics just won't fly. Which is a shame, people focus too much on the greeficks. Why RS Mobile is a stupid idea
