Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

I'm trying to get a cat-training medal from Gertrude. But the pet kitten she gave me won't actually do anything... Am I doing something wrong, or do I need something else?

Right-click your kitten and select the option for catching a rat. You have to catch 100 of them before you can get the cat-training medal. The Varrock Sewers are a good place to catch them.

Just so you know, the success rate for catching rats with a kitten is significantly lower than of a grown cat.

Lumbridge Castle is also a good place. The corridor next to the kitchen contains four spawns and some in the kitchen as well and they're kinda stuck there. Bob the cat is usally stuck there for a while if he happens to go there. The RS Wiki needs a hand, and Bwian's will gladly take the rest of your body!

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It says: Use, drop, examine, cancel.

Click the cat when it is following you. A cat can't do anything when it's in your backpack.

Usually when you click on 'drop' for an item like this, a prompt comes up asking if you're sure you want to destroy it, so I never even clicked on it.

This is true for lots of stuff, however, when it comes to pets, 'Drop' usually means to set it down on the ground so it can follow you. You have to make sure it's at a stage where they can follow you, don't just drop an egg stage of the pet.
I still would not recommend actually dropping a pet in real life though.

I was also reluctant dropping my cat the first time, but since that was the only option I could see, I figured that must be the way to let it follow me.
Jagex could change the 'drop' option to so 'let follow' or something like that to make it more clear.

My cat was last seen in my Menagery of my POH back when f2p could actually use the Menagery of their newly available POH. after the Menagerie went members-only, my cat just disappeared. At least it isn't taking space in my bank now as I prefer my baby troll.
