The community should be united against the common enemy: (other MMOs) instead of infighting about which runescape is better.

We need to stand together, not be divided. This is why Captain America (RS3) fought Iron Man (OSRS).

Why are other MMOs the enemies? And how are you intend to fight with them? Going to sabotage them? Ignore them? Other gaming companies are trembling with fear already...

I don't think that "fighting" with other MMOs is a good idea. OSRS can at least get people who don't play to think nostalgic thoughts for a few minutes before going back to their other game, but RS3 is pretty much just a laughing stock for the rest of gamerdom.

Fighting with OSRS is the only fight we can realistically expect to win, and that is just because the company behind both games is basically on our side.

Besides what are we even harming with this rivalry? Hurt feelings?

Real games fight with real content in the real world and show real world financial success in real $$$ for the companies and their investors, hence also provide real job opportunities for their real employees.

They don't need to go to other games to spread fake news because the real world and real investors can look at how different games invest their real $$$ and tell what games are real and what are the laughingstock siting at the petty corner of the real world chart. :D:D:D

So, Jagex's real games don't go to other games and make enemies there with fake news and data because they know they will only make themselves the real laughingstocks in the real world. They will rather work together with the other equally real and profitable games. That's why you get Monster Hunter World working with Final Fantasy, Tera working with PUBG etc. :):):)

At this point in time, the bigger common enemy is Jagex itself, not other MMOs. Many other MMOs have their own issues to deal with, so if we got Jagex to fix theirs, it'd make a much bigger impact, since if you falsely advertise a new player to join the game, they're gonna find out the truth and quit, and you'll have lost out on a potential loyal player.

For RS3, the problems are: dailyscape/temporary event spam, Treasure Hunter, Solomon's Store, legacy mode, bank rework getting cancelled, overall graphical inconsistency and lacking game updates

For OSRS, the problems are: visible poll results, neglected default client/allowed 3rd party clients and the hate between PvMers and PvPers caused by game design

For both games, the problems are: contest prize delivery, ironman mode inconsistencies, customer support and missing account security features

Once Jagex starts to seriously fix the above issues, then it'll be much easier to retain the potential new players.

The cross-over between Tera and PUBG is a very interesting case study, and a very realistic one for MMO to even have a chance to survive.

Imagine if Tera went to PUBG and told their players how great MMO were nowadays, how PUBG was dying because of all those MTX and bad content, how much the "world" liked their "populated" and nostalgic game worlds, En Masse would absolutely, definitely, totally, completely, 100% become the laughingstocks of the real consumers and investors in a nanosecond. They simply couldn't deny all the real world facts. :D:D:D

Fortunately, for En Masse, they accepted the undeniable fact that MMO is an inferior, if not dying genre and they were looking for alliance instead of enemies in the PUBG camp. They accepted they are just a petty company which the real investors frown upon and their good old friends have moved on to the modern and far more profitable genres. They knew for sure that concurrent "players" hardly mean a thing to real world consumer sand investors, only real world $$$ matters. They respect the undeniable facts that real world consumers love PUBG's content and update 9000 times more than Tera's. They know damn well Tera is an inferior product or else there would be a lot more investments into that game so they would not have to be an afterthought sitting at the corner of the real world fact sheet.

The irony is, En Masse know they can't beat PUBG, so the next best thing, and a smart one, is just to join it. :):):)

Not going to happen considering OSRS players have been majorly hurt by RS3. Those that are on OSRS are mostly those that were forced to leave because of updates (or lack thereof) that drove them out.

There's still tons of players on that version that still feel what they felt when they quit many years ago. It's why they can't accept RS3 and just want it to fail. In their minds, OSRS should be the only version that carries the Runescape brand because it's staying true to what they believe made the game "Runescape".

So instead of a united community, we have an ongoing war where players act like each game is made by two different companies. It's silly but it is what it is.

The war will go on until one game dies.

I don't think RSC players can could accept RS3. That's why they play played RSC... but we know the rest...

Natural selection can never be denied. Whether one likes it or not, either evolve with the real wold... or hear Charles Darwin say in his grave: thou are not fit to survive. :(
