As a returning player, I apologize in advance if I've failed to realize that something of the nature already exists, so please correct me if I'm wrong!

TL;DR - Add an in-game log ur UI that tells you where the selected item came from, what it does, how it can be used/utilized, etc. My reasoning below.

Hello! I'll keep this as short as I can :)

It's no secret EoC eliminated a fair amount of the player base when it was released. A lot came back, maybe some didn't. Maybe it took you years, maybe just a few months, or maybe you didn't quit at all, but realistically this issue could apply for anyone.

I've played this game with a mild passion since at least '07, I've quit and come back to this game more times than I can count, which I'm sure plenty of others have done as well. So, naturally, I assume those of you who have, understand the frustration of reviving an old, experienced account only to realize you've completely forgotten what most everything you have does, or how it can be used.

Basically, the problem I'm trying to make apparent is that I've accumulated quite a mass of items from just about every source possible, and over the years I've completely forgotten their uses or how I can utilize some of these items towards skilling.

THE SOLUTION!

Add an in-game log for items that tells/shows you everything that item can do, such as:
-Where you retrieved it (Monster drop, quest reward, mini-game, etc.)
-What its specific use is
-How to use it
-(optional) How it can be utilized for skilling

Short and simple! Could probably be added onto, but I'm solely here for the pitch.

I have a main with a few 99s and quite a bit 70+ that I've had since my pre-teens but I can't bring myself to grind it out again with loads of missing information that could greatly impact my trekking and skilling, feeling forced to start from scratch because the internet can be unreliable and misleading and sometimes useless.

Thank you! I hope I made it clear enough :)

Well, yes, but that's literally their job. If I'm not mistaken most, if not all, aspects of a game require coding. Some more than others sure, but I don't actually see it as a daunting task.
But I guess that doesn't mean it's not too much coding :@

Plus, my whole intention is to try and avoid having to look up items all the time. Bigger banks with more time under your belt means a lot of unique and uncommon items. It's not impossible but the time saved adds up!

That would take a lot of coding.

The Wiki is a great source of information about what things are.

Sorry, forgot to quote your message! (I forgot how the forums work with notifications)

There are no notifications on the forums, quoting a person does diddly-squat. It just makes it easier to follow a conversation in a popular thread or respond to small bits of something big someone said.

As to the idea: EVERY item would need this coding, and there are over 39.000 of items in the game according to the Wiki. Adding info for each and every one would be a massive task. Certainly if the Wiki has a page already on every item that says how to get it and what to do with it. Seems like the biggest waste of effort and time in the whole galaxy.

Great, thanks for clearing that up.

And I guess I can agree to that extent, but either way I don't see it as totally useless. I'm speaking as far as quality of life in-game. I'm not saying the quality of life isn't already fantastic but never hurts to add onto it! Every idea comes with time and effort, some easier than others but a thorough task nonetheless.

I'm not at all familiar with the OSRS alternative game clients, but from what I have heard they tend to include helpful tools like what you suggest.

Seeing how Jagex officially supports the wiki, I think they should make a really simple tool that you could just click like a '?' button and then click an item, which would offer to open the wiki page for that item.

That seems like the easiest solution of all, and could be done once for all items at the same time (with a few exceptions perhaps). It's usually the same URL with the name of the item added to it. And the game already has links that open up browsers, now only used to link to the news post when logging in after an update.

Typing out the info for each item just because some people can't be bothered to go to the Wiki or don't know of its existence yet is way too much work for such a tiny group of people.

I could agree 100% on that. I guess ultimately my idea was to try and eliminate searching through 3rd party source, to make it quick and easy. If it's taking us directly to that source I'm all for it! Don't drink and drive, you'll spill it.

It isn't really a 3rd party source since Jagex has their official support behind the wiki. It is maintained by player contributors but Jagex is willing to put their name on it which in my opinion makes it a 1st party source.
