Southeaster, let's not just talk about Runescape forums in general, let's pose this situation to any forum platform in general.

We will always find comments that are factually inaccurate. This is the nature of an open discussion. But that does not mean that we completely bar such statements, instead, we let the community deal with them. The primary reason being is that when we go to that level of censure, it makes for an overtly policed forum. For those of us that live liberally in a functioning democracy, this definitely encroaches on an individual's freedom of speech.

We cannot fault people for making the wrong statements, provided they are not offensive. We put people in check when they are not behaving appropriately.

Nobody is going to participate on a platform where everything you say is fact-checked. No one wants moderation to be that petty.

Southeaster, perhaps you might want to reflect on this, but when you enter an argument, you must have a tolerance for the the things that will come with arguing. Provided you are not being assaulted, we naturally have to tolerate it when someone says something stupid.

We are very fortunate that our forums protect individuals from personal attacks, it's not something you see in common elsewhere.

Also, can you imagine if the situation was a reality.

The Fmods would have to weave through mountains of reports that violated the rule. They'd have to rake their brains and might have to do some research if something is factually accurate or not.

We don't have a very big moderation team. This is going to be time-consuming and detract moderation away from issues that are actually pressing, needing more attention to.

I have decided that I'll report such incidences in future to Forum Help for spamming or disruptive behaviour instead.

Thanks to everyone who posted constructively on this thread.
