As one can expect, with the number of IRL laws, you'll often find laws contradicting one another. An example that comes to mind, is that in Australia, there's a law in section 60 C of the Family Law Act which attempts to balance satisfying shared parental responsibilities with best interests of the child. Minding that the Howard Government attempted to reform Family Law that prioritised children's best interests instead of equal shared parental arrangements.

As such, in applying the law, you will often have to play a balancing act.

Reasonably, when we look at a rule, we look at the objective of establishing the rule, its context and to the extent that it can be applied in our situation.

When it comes to that particular T&C you've mentioned, it's my opinion that it should be reformed slightly to accommodate for the CoC.

It's my opinion that the T&C takes precedence, because it should set the rules in-game and on the forums. Since the rules in a game is less complex than IRL laws, I believe that any rules which has the capacity to contradict another and confuse players should be minimal.

So, I agree with Mod Poerkie's statement.

I'm going to keep reading the rest of the posts to look for any other mentions of a contradictory rule.

Edit:

It appears that there's been another thread with a greater volume of discussion. So I might be missing a lot of context here, and be slightly repetitive.

posting a URL is not a hyperlink, as it isn't clickable

the rs forums don't support hyperlinks to websites outside of runescape.com, and as such there is no contradiction

Ah perfect! It seems I misunderstood the term 'hyperlink'.

So there is no contradiction.

As such, as Mod Poerkie has stated, one is able to presently follow both the T&C and Code of Conduct.

Well, since a URL isn't a link (since it isn't clickable) then the rules in the Code of Conduct which state that links can be posted if they are safe doesn't apply to posting URLs, thus, the Rule in the Rules of RuneScape would apply:
Original message details are unavailable.
Players should refrain from actively advertising in any of our games or forums. This includes advertising any website

Thanks for pointing out that no URLs are permitted to be posted in the forums.

Perhaps the CoC could tweak the wording. I understood 'link' to have the same meaning as 'URL' with the knowledge that hyperlinks to external websites are not feasible on the RSOF.

Until both you and MIU cleared things up, I would've based my understanding of the CoC off that perception. I wonder how many forum users think the same way.
