If you partial quote it, you're not going to get the big picture. I think what Tufty is trying to say is that the current system that Jagex uses to maintain the website is old and not so friendly to change. Jagex is notorious for taking ages to update and improve the forums. So many forum suggestions over the years have gone down the drain, even though they received massive support and stayed for a lengthy period of time.

So what Tufty was also trying to say is that Jagex in the future might just incorporate a completely new system where changes are quick, easy and cheap.

snow]Glad to know that the forum mods enjoy wasting other people's time, because being able to edit your own thread title yourself would be significantly faster than having to ask a mod to do it. Even if a forum mod would instantly respond to a name change request (which usually doesn't happen, sometimes can take upwards of several hours), having to add the QFC to the thread and the explanation that you want the name changed still takes longer than clicking a button yourself and typing the name change. :P[/snow]

This. Every other forum can do it, we should be able to.

The only reason I can think of as to why thread title change should be left in the hands of Fmods is that there could be a situation where trolls can have an inappropriate title and quickly change it before the Fmods can moderate.

But a simple solution to this would be to add a refractory period on title changes.

I see no issues with asking on Forum Help for a title change as long as it's not over used with the same thread. 1 or 2 changes is fine but more then that it might be pushing the boundries. ;)

The fact that you've said this is actually an issue. There should not be a limit to how many times an OP wants to change their thread title if it's within reason.

But I imagine the reality is that different Fmods are attending to Forum Help at various times, so it's likely that not just a single Fmod is going to attend to the same person consistently.

That's the thing though, why must the RSOF be like every other forum?

I know it needs some updates but why must we get a copy pasta update like this?

Plus the high chance this could be abused is also another reason why this shouldn't happen.

It doesn't necessarily have to be like every other forum in every aspect. But there are some merits to the features and user abilities that other forums have. Ideally, we'd like to benefit from having similar features. Something that other forums have is the ability to edit your own thread title, which many people reasonably expect to have.

We don't really know whether the chances are 'high'. Perhaps forums these days are different from before, especially with the level of activity. But one could argue that it's better to have no chance at all.

Then we must weigh the pros and cons. Does having the ability to edit your thread, which we can expect that majority of the community will use that ability reasonably, outweigh the possibility of abuse?

We're also very creative. We can come up with suggestions that can limit the abuse.

I've suggested:
- Refractory period of title changes.

I also suggest allowing screenshots to be posted on Forum Help as evidence that a user has attempted to violate the rules.

Considering photos can be faked, I don't see why you should?

This is the very sign of "abuse" im talking about.

One person trying to report another for something they possibly didn't do.

Interesting that is true.

Another suggestion is, provided that Jagex have installed a new platform for the forums that allows for a multitude of features, that Fmods be able to see history of a thread title changes.

I'm dreamin' abit, but still a suggestion :P.
