~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
BOSS: Ambergis, The Jaded
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Stats:

Combat Level 421
Hitpoints: 750
Attack: 200
Strength: 200
Defense: 300
Magic: 300
Ranged: 100
Prayer: 100
Max hit: 21 (Melee), 18 (Ranged), 45 (Magic)

Ambergis is unique in that it is a WANDERING boss, and as such, it can spawn in many different places and wander around the world at will. Therefore, hunting it down and killing it can be a chore.

Lore: Ambergis is an Icyene from New Domina that has a score to settle with Saradomin. She has fought "every worthy challenger" on New Domina, honing her combat skills in hopes of a confrontation one day with Saradomin, and has come to Gielinor - the last world Saradomin has been seen on - to further challenge any worthy opponents, and to one day maybe "let the pathetic excuse for a god atone for his sins." You can find out more from her in diary drops.

NOTE: You ONLY will take any damage or be attacked if you first attack her. You will not be "caught in the middle" just walking by. Any AoE attacks will not damage you if you are not already currently engaged in combat.

You will be notified in the chat box if Ambergis is close by because it will mention a tantalizingly alluring scent wafts around you, enticing you to investigate its source.

She has 100 Prayer Points and WILL use Protection Prayers until her prayer runs out. Smite will help with this. She changes prayers every 12 seconds to a random protection prayer. NOTE: If you aren't going to Smite this boss, you are making it intentionally harder.

Attacks:

1) Normal attacks (Melee, Ranged) - will slice with her massive oversized blade (max 21, 25% chance to ignore armor and Prayers), or hurl icicles at you (max 18, 25% chance to provide damage over time), but you can avoid this attack if you move from the square. This is her main attacks.

2) Sunfall (Magic) - A brilliant orb of light slowly falls somewhere on the ground around the fight. Where it lands, it deals up to 45 damage (Magic), also the location has "burn" on it for 30 seconds, where anyone moving over it will take damage. It takes 4-5 seconds to fall, so avoiding it should be easy.

3) Skybeam (Magic) - A ray of light descends on the field, glows brightly for a moment, then explodes, dealing up to 40 damage (Magic) on that location. Plenty of time to run away.

4) Healing Orb (non-damaging) - She shoots a spiraling orb of energy into the air above her, which slowly falls back to her. If it reaches her, it heals her 250 HP. Kill it first (10 HP). It must be Ranged/Magic (since it's up in the air), and Ancient Magics/Chinchompas CAN potentially hit both if you position yourself correctly. The Orb is placed at various squares above her, so positioning yourself to hit both will require careful strategy.

5) Alluring Scent (non-damaging) - occasionally, she will glow pink - run away from her! If you're standing nearby, you'll be intoxicated by her amazing scent and will refuse to attack her, while she still can attack you. This effect lasts 15 seconds. NOTE: You CAN still run, heal, etc. You just can't attack her.

Rewards:

Of course, standard drops are found. Uniques are listed:

1) Blade of Ambergis: Level 72 Strength and Attack to wield; 15% chance to hit a guaranteed attack of 50% of its maximum hit. A short animation displays when this happens.

2) Icyenic Wings: Cosmetic cape slot item. While worn, a beam of light will shine down on your character

3) Faith Prayer: Level 72 Prayer; Overhead. While active, Prayer Points restore at a rate of 1 per 18 seconds. Has a Prayer Drain rate of 1 per 18 seconds (so to benefit from this Prayer, Prayer-boosting items must be worn.) (Example: With +15 or below Prayer Bonus, this Prayer does nothing. With +16 Prayer bonus, it'd restore the equivalent of 1 Prayer Point per minute. You'd need a +50 Prayer bonus or higher to restore 2 Prayer Points per minute with this Prayer. Also, note it is Overhead, so it cannot be used in conjunction with Protection Prayers.)

4) Deliverance Prayer: Level 73 Prayer; Overhead. While active, if your Hit Points fall to below 15% (but above 0), your Prayer Points are drained to 0, and you are teleported to the altar at the Edgeville Monastery (up to Level 30 Wilderness). Drain rate of 2 Prayer Points per second.

5) Consecration Prayer: Level 74 Prayer; NOT overhead. While active, food you eat (and any potions consumed) will heal 2 additional Hitpoints over the next 6 seconds, as long as the Prayer is active, Drain rate of 1 Prayer Points every 6 seconds.

What if it were the same as the Rapid Heal - 1 point every 18 seconds? That seems fair I think. That'd make it too slow for most uses. That's only 3 points per minute.

EDIT: This means, that if you were wearing all of the best Prayer items in the game (which you probably aren't going to be), you can currently slow the Prayer drain of Protection Prayers from 1 every 3 seconds to 1 every 9 seconds. With this Prayer, it'd make that 1 out of every 18 seconds. That's the best case scenario. Typically, with normal gear, you'd decrease your Prayer point drain from 6 points in 18 seconds to 5 points in 18 seconds, with Protection Prayers. Overall, it seems balanced to me.

Kegs, are you seriously doing the math? At 1 point per 18 seconds, it wouldn't have that much of a drastic effect for most combat scenarios. It basically slows Prayer Drain down by about 15% in Pro Prayer-only scenarios, and by about 10% in other scenarios. I highly doubt that would crash prices and totally revolutionize PvM.

What change would you suggest? I do want some type of Prayer restoring effect.

EDIT: I'm afraid I've over-balanced it now, but I've made it Overhead so it can't be stacked with Protection Prayers, and I've given it a drain rate of 1 per 18 seconds also. This means to see any benefit from this Prayer, Prayer-boosting items are needed to slow the drain rate and see Prayer points actually restored.

So with the modifications I made, Faith prayer now will restore *up to* 2 Prayer Points per minute, if you're wearing the best Prayer-bonus items in the game. (If you're not wearing any Prayer-bonus items, it doesn't gain or lose any Prayer Points.) sTReTCh1028

I think, of everyone on the OSRS suggestion forums (or, at least, of those who propose larger ideas, rather than small tweaks and changes), you are the only person who's ideas are consistently good. In short, of everyone on the forums, I respect your creativity the most.

Of the boss, I like the idea of a wandering boss.

I think the freezing and the area attacks would be difficult to manage together in a way that seems fair. In effect, taking 75 damage because you got unlucky and frozen would be very annoying, since there's not much you can do about the freezing.

I think it would be reasonable to work in some sort of counterplay, which could help increase the complexity of the boss (which would allow more skilled players to kill the boss more effectively) without necessarily increasing the difficulty too much from what you have listed here.

I could think of multiple ways that could work, if you want my ideas.

Her most interesting mechanic is the circling orb. Does it circle close enough that a player could use, say, ancients or chinchompas to hit the orb and the boss together?

This makes me think that there could be an interesting boss who used a mechanic like that more heavily - so the player is looking around the boss for the the ideal space to attack... But that's a bit of an aside.

Of the rewards, I like the Faith prayer the most. Not so sure on the rest. The sword, in particular, seems very overpowered. Puts Veracs to shame, and that requires an entire armor set. If anything needs to be nerfed, it's that weapon.

Besides that, I like Consecration except for the prayer healing effect. I think Faith is good for the prayer heal, Consecration improving prayer prayer potions... I don't like it. Plus, how it works makes it way too susceptible to flashing.

Here's a thought: Maybe instead of just increasing the amount healed at once, the prayer would add a heal-over-time when you eat. Then that avoids the flash-eat abuse.

Thanks for the kind words and very effective constructive feedback. I have clarified/modified the Healing Orb attack so that it works the way you envision - it is placed at a random nearby square above her in such a way that Ancient Magic/Chins WILL work to hit both if you are able to position yourself correctly. Also, I've clarified that Range/Magic is needed here, as it is too high for any Melee (even Halberds) to reach.

The Sword I've modified to fit more to what I was wanting in my head - it has a 15% chance to hit a guaranteed hit of 50% of its maximum. That's not really much of a change from what it was before, but it is enough of a benefit that the blade would be useful against high-defense bosses, but I don't think it's terribly overpowered. It does more guaranteed damage than Verac's (50% of maximum versus 1 for Verac's), but only has a 15% chance versus 25% chance, which will help balance it, I think.

Finally, I've modified the Consecration Prayer to heal over time and requires the Prayer to be active for the HoT effect to work. I've also modified the Prayer Potion healing effect to make it where any potion drunk will heal Hitpoints.

Your thoughts and feedback are welcome. Thanks!
