================The GOP Tournament of Tea================

Welcome to the GOP Tournament of Tea. I am your host, Uriel Gale. In the past there have been tournaments held for the GOP community which limited the amount of contestants that could take part. They used the free-for-all concept, where 1v1 matches between players were unbalanced. This wasn’t always assumed the best option because it did not provide everyone with a fighting chance to win something, as the amount of experience between players varies considerably. So I propose a different approach to the upcoming tournament, an approach that I feel will help attract some attention to the game of GOP that we all love :).

Entry Requirements:
- Level 50 Runecrafting to enter GOP (Great Orb Project, located at the top of the wizards tower)
- Must have issued max scores prior to the start of the competition (these can be estimated if unsure). These will not be displayed on the Achievements list if one does not wish them to be. To issue max scores, contact the following chats: Death Erebus, Uriel Gale, Credibles (friend chats) or Death Erebus, Credibles (clan chats). If you are new then ask a member of these chats to observe your soloing.
- Sign up via forums will have to be done before the 6th of August. Anyone signing up later than this date
MUST
find me personally so that I can observe your GOP performance. Signing up on alternative accounts is not permitted and sign up closes on the 10th of August.

If you are unsure of anything then feel free to contact me via friends chat Uriel Gale.

Note:
THIS TOURNAMENT IS OPEN TO EVERYONE AND DEFENDING IS NOT ALLOWED
.

Outline of Tournament

Grouping
The tournament will be split into three leagues: Cup, Water and Tea. These leagues will be separated according to player MTI (max total index). MTI is the total sum of all altar maxes. This is done to avoid having matches where one has a considerably huge advantage over the other. Holding the tournament like this will allow more opportunity for players to win something. These MTI requirements are not final and may change to fit the requirements of the tournament. The leagues are as follows:

Tea – 183+
Water – 182-155
Cup – 154 and downwards

If you feel up to it, you may participate in higher leagues. This is entirely up to you and if you choose to do so, please inform Uriel.

Match Information and Requirements
The outcome of matches will be decided using the traditional 12 altar game, with a slight change: Each player, in turn, chooses a world
AND
the colour to play on in that world. The winner is the player who wins the most altars. The amount of rounds of the tournament will be decided once all the entries have been made. Information regarding opponents will be displayed on this thread. Also, please read the following carefully:

- Both players must have received at least a 24 hours’ notice prior to their game. They must come to an agreement themselves. If you are unable to contact your opponent, then contact Timome or Uriel Gale who will be able to assist you.
- Each match must be recorded. Currently there are three allocated members who are permitted to record games. Anyone is able to assist with recording but must contact Timome or Uriel Gale so that they can be authorised to do so. Allocated members are: Timome, Auos Pro, Uriel Gale. These numbers may increase in the near future.
- You must inform either Timome, Auos Pro or Uriel Gale that you are ready to start.
- Games must be played under fair circumstances. If someone is unable to play, Timome or Uriel Gale must be informed.

Rewards
The reward pot started at
250m
. This is due to increase as I need more time to spend tokens, however it will exceed
600m
. This pot will be split amongst the leagues with a ratio of 50% for Tea, 30% for Water and 20% for Cup. Each league will present three winners, 1st, 2nd and 3rd to which the allocated percentage of the prize money will be distributed to. There are also hidden rewards. These will be given out to people during or at the end of the tournament and are based around achievements. If you are eligible for this reward, I will contact you myself.

Timings and Other Information
The Tournament kicks off on the 12th of August 2013. All entries must be finalised by the 6th of August to give us enough time to prepare. You can use: QFC:42-43-937-57562831 to find out how game time relates to your own timezone.

Contact Information
For more information contact Timome via Death Erebus friends and/or clan chat or myself, Uriel Gale, in Credibles clan chat or my friends chat, Uriel Gale.

If, for any reason, you feel that there are changes necessary then feel free to leave your criticism on this thread or inform me, Uriel Gale, via my friends chat.

Throughout the tournament, three friend chats will be used. It is important to have these noted if you are taking part.

Gee Oh Pee - GOP friends chat.
Death Erebus - GOP friends chat.
Uriel Gale - Tournament host.

Thank you for your co-operation :). I will keep this thread updated with more information but for now GET PRACTICING and more importantly, have fun :).

If you are new to GOP and would like someone to assist you with the minigame then do not hesitate to contact friend chats Death Erebus or Uriel Gale for teaching assistance :).

If your name is not mentioned above then you have been placed into round 2. Round 1 ends on the 10th of September. After the 4th of September those who know their round 2 match-ups may proceed to play their games. Round two officially starts on the 11th of September.

Rules
- You must have someone recording or 2 of the allocated judges sit in your game for your match to be validated. A list of judges can be found on page one of this thread.

- You can each pick a world
AND
a colour to play on that world. Two games must be played and the winner is the one with the most altars.

- In-game DC's will be decided on. If enough evidence is available that one of the two had a certain chance of winning the altar if the game continued, then the match will continue from the next altar. If such evidence is not shown then the altar is repeated.

Contacting opponents:
Use the following friend chats to contact your opponent:
Gee oh pee
and
Death Erebus
. You may also need to contact me personally for some of the people listed so you may use Uriel Gale fc too.

Another idea would be to add your opponent to your friend list and communicate with each other that way. This will be easier for both of you :D < ----- I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO THIS !!~@#!! ~@~!"@~! -flips table-, just playing :)
-tickles-, it's up to you really :oo.

I am planning to add solo 'challenges' for those of you who wish to take part. The prizes for these challenges are not decided yet and information about them will be released in the next couple of days. If you would like these 'challenges' then please let me know in a comment on this thread :o or via in-game by joining my friends chat Uriel Gale. THANKS! One of these 'challenges' is the following:

Stacked Defence Challenge
A player must solo three altars, Air, Fire and Body whilst being defended constantly by a number of players. The higher number of players you have against you, the greater the rewards. The information is listed below for each league.

The following ratios will be determined as follows:
Number of Defenders : Target Score : Prize

Tea League - Defenders and players must be from Tea League.

Air Altar
1 : 30 : 100k
2 : 22 : 200k
3 : 18 : 300k
4 : 10 : 400k
5 : 07 : 500k

Fire Altar
1 : 23 : 100k
2 : 18 : 200k
3 : 13 : 300k
4 : 07 : 400k
5 : 05 : 500k

Body Altar
1 : 25 : 100k
2 : 19 : 200k
3 : 14 : 300k
4 : 09 : 400k
5 : 06 : 500k

Water League - Defenders and players must be from Water League

Air Altar
1 : 23 : 100k
2 : 15 : 200k
3 : 12 : 300k
4 : 08 : 400k
5 : 05 : 500k

Fire Altar
1 : 21 : 100k
2 : 16 : 200k
3 : 12 : 300k
4 : 06 : 400k
5 : 04 : 500k

Body Altar
1 : 23 : 100k
2 : 17 : 200k
3 : 12 : 300k
4 : 07 : 400k
5 : 04 : 500k

Cup League - Defenders and players must be from Cup League

Air Altar
1 : 18 : 100k
2 : 14 : 200k
3 : 11 : 300k
4 : 08 : 400k
5 : 05 : 500k

Fire Altar
1 : 15 : 100k
2 : 12 : 200k
3 : 08 : 300k
4 : 05 : 400k
5 : 03 : 500k

Body Altar
1 : 16 : 100k
2 : 13 : 200k
3 : 10 : 300k
4 : 08 : 400k
5 : 05 : 500k

If you do not reach the orb target, then you will receive a piece of the reward for that particular altar. So lets say you scored 14 on Air Altar in Cup League with one defender, you will receive a portion, maybe 80k, of the full 100k reward. The rewards stack up and you will receive the combination of all three altars as your total reward money at the end of the game. The reward money can increase, but that depends on how much GEEPEE I have left over :). This is one of the few different 'specials' I have thought of, so if you would like games like this then please inform me through a comment on this thread or in-game via my friends chat Uriel Gale. Thanks! :D

Judges:

List of recorders permitted:
Timome
iMaster Mike
Elriss (if he can)
Deobfuscated
Uriel Gale

List of other judges:
Aeslie
Timome
Gethynytridd
Never GvUP
27 hobbits (if he can)
9h3
Yoeri106
Uriel Gale

Judges who aren't recording must write down the scores of each altar and the colour of each participant. These results must then be posted on the forums or Timome or Uriel must be informed so they can post the results. The date of the match should also be noted. If you cannot find two judges and both participants agree with one judge then the game can be played. Thanks :)

Important notice: Timome is runnning the tournamemt while I am away.

You can find up-to-date information on Timo's thread which can be found here (Timo's post for future updates) while I am away. Good Luck to all :)

... separating them by MTI is not accurate at all because if you want to team people up fairly MTI is not the way to do it. it should be based on average if your gonna separate them like that ... like i said last night to timo if my max is 38 on air but i avg a 30 on air and i get teamed up with someone who's max is 38 but avg's 37 its basically the same thing its an unfair pairing. another thing is i think the pairings should be random where as a noob gopper could be paired up with an experienced one....

I understand where you're coming from :o. The problem with testing everyone's average is that it'll take a long time. I expect around 100-150 people to take part in this tournament and watching them, need about an hour each, will take too long. Pairing people within their respective MTI is reasonable :o, if you would like to have an AVERAGE estimated based on your current play then that is fine, however people will use this to their advantage and try to get into the bottom groups. Also, random pairing. Random pairing exists even within the MTI groups, it's just more closely grouped. It avoids 'unfair' pairing where one who is experienced will end up with another who is a novice whilst two experienced players face each other off. To me, it seems more reasonable to have grouped it this way. I expected that people who have not been playing as much will have an issue with this, but that is why I allowed a 2 month gap between the official tournament post, and the time it starts so that people can train. There is a problem with calculating averages. Say someone has their average calculated today. They will then proceed to train for the remaining 2 months and by then their average would have increased, which means they will need to be re-grouped.

Wait what?? MTI would increase but averages may go up or down. The more games, the more accurate.

Reminder: MTI means the sum of your maxes for the 6 altars. As time goes on, your maxes cannot decrease so MTI is a non-decreasing function.

I have an idea though. I would like to see an award for Highest average total score for the duration of t the tournament. This can be calculated without too much effort because everyone's game is recorded, so all scores will be recorded and public.

Sorry I meant averages xD, and that award will be presented, along with others :). But there is a problem with that though. Everyone will play a different amount of games and so some people will have more games to add towards their average total and some won't. How about the highest total score? :P

No problem ^_^, you can fine me in my fc, Uriel Gale, and we'll arrange a time for you to play a few games. May I use the results of each game in this tournament for a Community GOP Hiscores project? : )

It's an attempt to file GOP into the hiscores made by us, for now, because Jagex has not made hiscores for GOP. And, if folks want to exclude their tournament games from the list, they can say so, and they may opt out. : )

The rating system used will be an adaptation of the Elo rating system, and is constructed so as to indicate skill the most accurately. This is near the same system as used in chess.

I realise there is another community-sprung "hiscores" of sorts on the forums already (The GOP Solo Acheivements List), but this is not an accurate way of measuring skill and keeping it up to date. Also, the Community GOP Hiscores would measure performance in solo as well as teamwork-GOP.

You can use mine :P

Hey, I wanna get into GOP, from the few times I played it seemed like a fun game and seeing as you guys host tournaments for it, it'd be really cool to participate.

I have no idea how to go about starting this or who to go to for starting this, as from what I've seen I need to go through a process of scoring myself to be able to compete and I know nothing about it, haha! So I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks again.

WONDERFUL! :D I will gladly teach you for however long you need ^_^. I have added you on my account, Uriel Gale, or you can find me in my friends chat and we can get learning/practising whenever you're ready :P. Or, if I am not available, please use Death Erebus friends chat and ask for Timome or Gethynytridd (two pro teachers :¬P).

I CAN FINALLY POST!!!! >:oooooooooooooooo

Sorry, I will have this thread updated by end of Sunday 11th. Match-ups will be up by early Monday 12th.

Due to some things that have happened irl I no longer have time to participate in the tournament. I can either practice for my games or record games for you guys so I choose to take myself out. This isn't something I can control which is why resigning is the best choice for me. I will keep this tournament running and updated regularly.

THANK YOU, GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN :D!

Also to those of you that are new I, Uri, welcome you to the compelling game of GOP. I hope that after this tournament you will stay with us and take part in further events that will be held. I look forward to meeting all of you :DD, -tickles-, practice hard and I hope I can make this competition as enjoyable for you as I can. -tickles more- >:DD

Beccy 1111 joined up in right at the start, but doesn't appear to be on the lists; she doesn't think she can make the Sat/Sun open-day event, this weekend, but could she still be entered, please?

(only fair, considering she signed up Months ago D: ! )

Thankyou !

Tommi~
