Welcome to RuneScape 3!

If you haven’t already, you can access the game via various methods found on the Downloads page of the website.

Original message details are unavailable.
Are you returning to the game? If so, skip to this post!

.

This thread will be a short introduction to the game with some useful information to those just starting out, as well as some major events you may have missed from the past. This thread is not aimed at veteran/experienced RuneScapers, however, anyone is welcome to offer advice and contribute to the thread.

Some will have recognised this thread from the past, as I’ve actually posted it 3 times before, once for DarkScape and twice for RS3, however due to a couple of inactive periods, it’s been eaten by the page 50 monster… so here’s this threads comeback! ;)

Original message details are unavailable.
PLEASE NOTE: This thread is NOT for Old School RuneScape!

Getting Started:

Once you’ve created an account, you’ll be given options (shown below) whether you’re new to the game or not, which will determine if you complete the tutorial or not. Should you choose “Never played before”, you’ll appear on Tutorial Island, which introduces you to the game showing all the controls and how to use everything. You’ll participate in skilling and combat challenges to move onto the mainland. The biggest advantage to succeeding in this game is to have higher stats so that you’re able to participate in more of the high-level content the game has to offer. As the world of RuneScape is a vast, open world, it’s very difficult to decide what and where to go first.

Account Security:

After having completed the tutorial, it’s is extremely important that you have all your account security in order. This includes a bank pin, email and Authenticator registered to the account.

Bank Pins:
These can be set up via any bank teller around the game world. Simply talk to them and set up a pin you’ll remember, but don’t make it too easy for someone to guess!

Email Registration:
You should already have this done when you set up your account, but if you’re a returning player who no longer has an email registered, then you should put on ASAP. It’s recommended not to use your personal email address for RuneScape related things, but create a separate one for your account.

Authenticator:
Google Authenticator is another tool used to log in and keep your account safe. The app can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS devices, and the Google Play store for Android users. If you don’t have a smartphone, or want to use your smartphone for this, you can get Authenticator for your PC. Read this thread for more information: Setting the Authenticator - Desktop/Laptop.

If you’re ever in need of help, then the Community Led Account Help forums, or Support centre are the places to go!

Client Interface:

After creating your account, the default setting for the client interface will be the RuneScape 3 (NIS) look. If you’re a returning player and don’t like the look of this, then you’re able to change it back to how it looked before the release of EoC in 2012 via the settings. If you’d like a customisable interface, stick to the RS3 look and have a play around with an interface that will suit you. You can also save multiple interfaces to use at different occasions (see below).

Press ‘Esc’ and this interface will appear. You can load, and save different interfaces in the red box.

Please excuse the interface shown in the picture, it’s my ‘AFK’ one I use when doing work on split screen. :P

For the Legacy interface:
Press Esc and then Gameplay Settings. (See below)

Returning Players

If you’ve not played for a few years, then below you can find a few suggestions to assist you in getting back to playing RuneScape.

Old School RuneScape:
First of all, if you played the game before the release of the Evolution of Combat, and do not like the new version of the game, then head over to the Old School RuneScape page, which is a reincarnation of the game from 2007 – with some additional updates built onto it. This game was re-released in 2013 after a player poll and resembles the feel and style of the game from that era.
NOTE: As this is a different game to RuneScape 3, your account will be reset with level 1 stats and you’ll have to start over!
.

RuneScape 3:
The biggest thing to unlock is the Elf City, which provides a lot of skilling, combat and questing opportunities, meaning completion of the
Plagues’ End
quest is a must!

To gain money within the new style of gameplay,
Slayer
is probably your best bet. It’s very fast, can be efficient and makes a lot of money. It also trains up several skills in the process.

Quests play a large role in the progress of the RS3 storyline, so it’s highly recommended to complete as many as possible.

Joining a clan will greatly help you in getting back into the game, while making new friendships.

More to be added soon.

Hints and Tricks for New Players:

It can seem daunting trying to gain those first initial levels in skills to get started on your adventuring. Here I’ll quickly explain some fast ways to gain levels in skills to unlock content faster.

Content unlockables
Quests
D&Ds

______________________________________________________________________

Content Unlockables (Free to Play):

These take a maximum of 10-15 minutes to complete each, and provide some start up cash, levels and easy teleportation.

Lodestone network -
Unlock all lodestones for easy access around. (10 for Free to Play, and 19 for Members (4 cannot be unlocked without high levels)).

Stronghold of Security -
Not a quest, but get 10,000gp

Daily Challenges -
Daily challenges are worth doing to gain fast levels when starting out.

Achievement Tasks -
Complete as many tasks as possible, then talk to Explorer Jack in Lumbridge. Depending on how many tasks have been completed, depends on how much cash he'll reward you with up to 3M!

Hints and Tricks for New Players (Continued):

Content Unlockables (Members):

Varrock Museum (do the basement quiz, talk to Reldo) -
1,000 XP in Slayer and Hunter (enough for level 9).

Dwarven Army Axe -
Talk to Major Mary Rancour (in Burthrope) to pick up a Dwarven Army axe, some potions and teletabs for Varrock and Falador. Also take some time to run several laps around the agility course to add a boost to your run energy time limit.

Reaper Tasks -
While these maybe for higher combat players, you can still get these as a low level (50+ Combat needed), find a group to do the task with, and still gain a lot of XP. You can gain between 7000-20000 XP per task, which can be completed very quickly in a group and get those first few Slayer levels up.

D&Ds (Members):

Distractions and Diversions are a great source of XP in a small amount of time. Completing these is completely optional, but can provide quick levels to skip those daunting methods at low levels. For a full list of all friends chats which host different D&Ds, refer to the Minigames / D&Ds Directory V5.

Big Chinchompa -
This D&D can be accessed at the Tree Gnome Stronghold, north of Ardogune. At level 1, completing a round of Big Chinchompa, approximately 20 Hunter levels can be gained (XP and levels change as your levels increase), and can be completed twice per day.

Circus -
The Circus is a great source of quick Range, Magic and Agility levels when starting off. You can gain anything from 10 to 20 levels in each skill, depending on your performances. The Circus can be completed once per week.

God Statues -
God Statues can reward quick Construction, Prayer or Slayer levels, however this D&D can only be done once per month.

Troll Invasion -
Survive through as many waves as you can to gain an XP book which can be used on a skill of your choice. This D&D can only be done once per month.

Guthixian Cache -
Best to be done when you have at least 45 Divination, however can still be played from level 1.

Fish Flingers -
This D&D is best started after 49 fishing, as you gain 8000+ XP per game, however you can start this D&D from level 1.

D&Ds (Members) (Continued)

Penguins -
Simply talk to Larry at the Ardogune Zoo to start out. These provide good xp boosts to any skill. Even if you can't hunt all of them, it helps to have the ability to spy them should you run across some in your travels.

Meg -
Although Player Owned Ports requires level 90 in certain stats, you can still enter the port and talk to Meg weekly for that D&D. There are chances of large amounts of XP and money rewards.

Wilderness Warbands -
This D&D is very helpful in gaining quick levels in either Construction, Farming, Herblore, Mining or Smithing. It is highly recommended to do this D&D with a friends chat (full list of warbanding friends chats here).
BE WARNED – this D&D is located in the Wilderness! You will lose your items if you die!

Minigames

Minigames are a great source of XP, bonus XP, armour, and many other rewards. They’re also a great place to find friends and battle others, depending on the minigame you play. For a full list of all friends chats which host different minigames, refer to the Minigames / D&Ds Directory V5.

Stealing Creation -
Provides a lot of bonus XP which stacks with the +50% members XP.
Note:
You need at least 20 in some skills to gain decent points, however SC can be done with level 1 stats.

The Nexus -
The Nexus south of Lumbridge Swamp rewards up to 37,000 prayer XP (enough to get level 39)

There maybe some other methods for training that are good when starting out, they will be added at a later time. If anyone wants to contribute something to this section, feel free to post it and you'll be credited. :)
