No more RuneScape Classic.

DarkScape came and left..

...And now RS3 is witnessing a significant decline of players.

My Question is, should I be concerned of RuneScape3 possibly shutting down in the near future?
I am confident that OSRS is standing strong so Jagex will not touch it for now but as far as RS3, I don't want it to be the case that I continue to train further and lets say a few years down the line we receive a similar notice like there was about Classic that the game is being closed.

As a business of course, there will be a waiting period until MTX / Cosmetic / In-game purchases die out and especially since we have a new skill now. However, looking at the worlds that used to be most popular I feel like the time is close but am still skeptical.

I just want to decide this week which route to take including just log into RS3 for friends/fun and not train as much, transfer to OSRS, grind and not care or just take a break for now lol

thanks :)

Somebody on Reddit actually did a calculation based on the graphs at Misplaced Items for how long it'd take for RS3 to reach 0 online players if the current pace remained, and I don't remember the exact date he came up with, but it was somewhere in the year of 2022-2024, that much I can remember. So assuming that nothing changes, you have give or take 5 years left, make of that what you will.

Jezza, i know how hard it is to make a legitimate choice about how this game controls your life, most players either can't see the effect or decide to ignore just how much runescape becomes part of daily life " i am in no way blaming or accusing anybody of anything here" but it does not matter if you can see what i am saying or refusing to admit that i am correct but my advice to you on this topic you ask is, do not allow your heart or even your mind to make this decision, step back and take a good look at your life and where you want it to go and then choose.

Don't be like me and go through the heartbreak of jagex choosing which path i take, don't get me wrong though, it took me 4 years of pain to see that although i was hurting, actually it was probably the best thing that could have happened because if not, i may have been still here grinding 16+ hours a day, now all i see is they released me and gave me a life.

Moral of the story.......

Choose your own route, don't allow anyone else to show you the way.

Much love

OSRS is actually declining much faster than RS3 lately. If you follow that Redditor's logic, OSRS is going to reach 0 online players way before RS3.

As a matter of fact, RS3's concurrent players have been going up the last week but the same can't be said to OSRS.

Don't worry though. Concurrent players counts are inaccurate for most parts. However, if you choose to follow the logics of that Redditor, then you may have to worry about OSRS hitting 0 concurrent players way before 2022-2024.

I think the real thoughts for this thread come from the insecurity of the company and the fact that they can't keep their staff anymore and tbh, i'd hate to feel the same way about this game as i did before may 26th 2015 and one day try to log in and find out that Thomas Cook 2 just happened.
