For years, I've enjoyed the forums by reading/providing occasional feedback on the latest home page news posts and updates. Recently, I've noticed a trend of there not being a discussion "button" leading to a relevant thread to express people's thoughts.

Why is this? What is happening? I know (sadly) other social platforms are now taking precedence over our own game's forums, but this is pretty disappointing. :|

I don't remember where they first said it, but allegedly the reason for why they stopped caring about the update discussion threads was that the news post on the home page has to be transcribed to a different format here on the forum end when made into a thread. At this point in time, they still posted the threads, but they only contained the link to the news post on the home page, along with a message like "how do you feel about this update? share your thoughts below". After that, they just stopped posting the threads entirely.

He's not talking about the lack of recent update thread content, he's talking about how on the news post itself there isn't a link to the relevant thread. Specifically, the comp cape rework newspost has a list of places to discuss it - but doesn't link to the thread on the issue that's in future updates.

Exactly...

If there's "all of a sudden" (keep in mind, it's been this way for over 15 years) a formatting issue tying the main posts directly here to the forums, and heaven forbid we try a simple copy/paste routine--fine. I'm okay if they "at least" write a small message (as was done a few times, and then...?) linking to the information. But to take away that as our opportunity to provide insight really does have an impact on players who desire to share their responses on the news.

We now have to manually create a thread to discuss a certain topic every time? Do they not care to read what we have to say anymore? Is our feedback purely going to be determined by polls? What the heck... I'm really hoping someone can explain this to me. It literally doesn't make sense at all.

The thread is still here:

http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/c=tiiHxNOPjJU/sl=0/forums.ws?442,443,4,66076655

The link to it is still in the original Weekly Update News post.

Forum users are obviously still using that thread for discussion as usual.

I don't see anything different other than the thread is not in RGU anymore.

There's a difference (in my opinion) in "Game Updates" and "Patch Notes." Patch Notes usually, and should be, small changes to the game to enhance user experience (bug fixes, quality of life, etc.). Unless they refer to new game content in addition to the patch notes listed, I don't see it really as an appropriate thread to discuss major updates. Regardless, often even small announcements used to have their own thread created for users to chat about it.

RS3 Jmods are just being humble to call their updates and reworks "patches". ;)

I hear you, but this still confuses people. They need to make it clearer for us if they're now just considering everything a, "patch." Basically, what this is saying to me is they're only preferring feedback from people who read through the "technical jargon" specifics of the patches--any other type of feedback/commentary is irrelevant.
