I'm not trying to annoy anyone just have a question. I am a college student so time and money especially money is tough would a discount for college students ever be possible? like if i shown that i had straights A's could get a discount or even just get a month or A's and B's get a bonds worth of membership? i particularly need something to do when i am finished with classwork and runescape is perfect for that. I am writing this after a long day so am particularly tired so sorry if its a confusing question

It could always be possible, but validating students could be tricky. Other than having a certified and valid .edu email address registered to the account, I can't think of any other / more reliable way to determine eligibility for such discount.
I'd suggest working towards earning enough gold to buy and redeem a bond in-game, then you don't have a worry about the money aspect of a "traditional subscription".

Like Spearmint said, this would be tough to verify. In addition, you run into the issues of: - having to give Jagex a lot more personal information about yourself in an era where hacking is commonplace and companies sell data for pennies/pence - college/universities would not like it if you used their computers for playing games (it's a similar concept to gaming on work computers) ... same with playing games while the professor is talking ...
You also run into the detail of do I have to be a student for the full semester? or can I technically enroll in the school right up to the start of the semester ... pull out before the first payment is required ... then take the discount from RS AND avoid actually paying anything to the institution?
you also have the detail that education is a life long process. It's not just 18-25 year olds. you could have 30 somethings and 40 somethings and older in school AND they still play RS.

I doubt it, the current membership price isn't aimed at kids and students anyway, just at working adults as they're more likely to pay for MTX as well. If you'd really want to be a member I'd suggest playing OSRS and buying bonds there. That takes less time as bonds can't be used there to buy XP, resulting in them being relatively cheaper.
ToP BaSSsaid: Eat one less pizza per month - Whalla! membership money.
Maybe for us because we have a grandfathered rate. Considering he still has to eat a meal, he's not saving a whole lot by not eating a pizza. I also don't see it as strange to ask for a student discount, as a lot of companies do offer them if you use a registered educational email address.
I wasn't even thinking about grandfathered rates. $10.99 for a months membership is among the cheapest in the industry. Month membership.... 1 month - 43,200 minutes 1 pizza - 20 minutes. Beans/cheese on toast to replace pizza - 50/99c
Cost of verification student status - 1 staff member monthly salary 2k Cost of repelling a sudden mass of bogus students - anyone's guess. Cost of dealing with complaints from bogus students not given discount - think of a number.

I'm an university student and Runescape membership is totally affordable, in my opinion. You can simply not buy some bottles of beer and there the money is. Even when you don't drink then you can save the money from some snacks/sweets/etc thing that's not necessary for life. Some students work part time, other get scholarship for good results.... It is really not hard to pay for membership.
But sure, student discount is something I would gladly accept. It does not need to be based on grades as it will be too complicated. Different universities have different policies and different grading systems. Not to mention how you are going prove the grades? Send them a screenshot/hard copy? - Grades can be photoshopped. Link Runescape into university's system? - Hell will freeze before this is going to happen. They can't even get the systems fixed into 100% perfect state not to mention some add-on functionality for some game that maybe 4% of the students are playing.
Most feasible is to link your university's email into Runescape's system. Then they should update the list of university's domains time by time as some universities will stop existing, new ones will be made and not every university is using .edu domain. For example my university uses ttu.ee domain.

I'm pretty sure that Jagex occasionally sends out targeted membership discounts. I think most of these offers go to groups of players who have left the game/canceled their membership.
