is there any point to making masterwork items given the awful xp you get when creating them and the bars they need compared to elder rune equipment. It seems to me from an xp view there is no point making any items after elder rune.
Bazzuksaid: i dont get it the whole point of this game is XP
If that's what you think, then by all means: continue forging Elder Rune.
But the idea behind Masterwork was a profitable and lengthy process for skillers to gain from, one that PvMers and the non-dedicated would be dissuaded from diving into. Tying lucrative XP/hr to something solely meant for GP/hr would cause it to be a viable training method, flooding the market with oversupply of Masterwork and destroying any semblance of profitability for people such as myself.
Long story short, if armour = good xp, it =/= good gp.
Like said the intention is to make Elder (+5 & burial) for xp reasons & masterwork for the stats, but i think the amount of xp gained from making masterwork is ridiculously low. It prlly takes like 14 hours mining (good xp) and 14 hours smithing (only melting bars give basic xp), Elder i havnt really timed but i think its in the area of 2-4 hours mining + smithing. But the masterwork that takes 6 times longer to make should at least give the same amount of xp as the elder+5. It is still the activity of a higher tier smithing, we are still hammering the stuff ourselves, and it requires a higher skill lvl. Xp still is short for 'experience', I suppose it gains you a lot of experience to make such delicate gear. Atm i get more xp from the divine dusts that pop up every so often from my carpet & jewelry combo then i get from making masterwork, that is just plain wrong.
It's the "moneymaking" for skillers. Many of them are satisfied with minimal profits, considering how defensive they are over the stone spirits. Stone spirits (in its current form of giving double ores) hurt both skiller and PVMer profits, because ore is injected twice as fast into the economy thereby forcing ore prices downwards. Of course, most skillers don't care about this as long as they still profit and PVMers earn less than before. Yes, doing Nex and Barrows: Rise of the Six saw a buff in Malevolent and Torva prices, but that's only a small part of the bossing spectrum. Other high level bosses, Mid/low level bosses and slayer monsters were especially hit hard by these junk stone spirits.
There are many different market forces in work with masterwork armour. The overwhelming demand is supposed to come from PVMers using custom-fit masterwork armour, but if Jagex actually makes custom-fit masterwork armour not degrade during slayer/reaper tasks, then there will be less demand for masterwork armour in the long term.
There is a ton of masterwork armour sets in game according to Mod Jack, so it will take a long time for those sets to be used up to repair armour. As I said earlier, some skillers are content with minimal profit, so perhaps masterwork armour is doomed to continue falling to a price above the total alch price of all the bars to make masterwork + cost of "labor".Hard -> 3a Range Top (#357), 3a Full Helm (#439), Barrows Dye (#1755)
Elite -> Shadow Dye (#510), Barrows Dye (#680, #1567), 3a Druidic Staff (#969), Sack of Effigies (#972), Ice Dye (#1539)
Master -> Barrows Dye (#480)
