i would like to see runescape take its first steps into the world of console gaming as i believe that it would be the best game available on console and i also know that once full dive tech comes out this game would shoot up in the gaming community as it is already one of the greatest games out there. also i have played osrs since i was in 6th grade i have always enjoyed it but i feel like a lot of us have great expectations and faith in what it can be in the future and i hope that one day we can see exactly what this godly game can truly be.

if you agree with any of this or dont feel free to post to this im interested in how my fellow gamers feel

Below is a quote of a previous reply I made elsewhere which explains the situation as it was the last time Jagex investigated console:

https://www.engadget.com/2011/08/26/jagex-ceo-hints-at-why-runescape-hasnt-come-to-consoles/

The problem according to Gerhard?

Microsoft and Sony. "They said 'we cannot let the Microsoft community play with the Sony community,''' he explained, before offering his response and an explanation as to why RuneScape has yet to appear on a console. "We're not going to frame our community into boxes just for a few million more customers. Of course I'd love a few million more customers, but I just wouldn't do it [...] you almost become the disease you're trying to solve."

https://www.engadget.com/2011/08/28/jagex-ceo-says-runescape-will-be-cross-console-free-to-play-or/

Developer Jagex is positioned to ship Runescape across all consoles, free-to-play and with complete cross-platform capabilities, if CEO Mark Gerhard has anything to say about it. Which, as CEO, he does. Gerhard told Develop that some console owners wanted to charge for Runescape, which he sees as absolute lunacy. "People get this for free. You're shooting yourself in the foot," Gerhard said. "But Sony was ahead of the game; they said they get it. They understand free. But all three said, 'okay, but we won't let our console play online with any other.'"

TL;DR Classic console “we like X but you can’t play with the neighbor kids becaus they’re inferior console peasants.”
Sad, really, but that’s what we get nowadays.

It's been quite some time since Jagex has let us know about any conversations they've had with console makers, the cross play issue seems to be becoming a non issue.

Ever since cross play was accidentally enabled on Fortnite and Xbox/Playstation had the chance to play together, the demand for Microsoft and Sony to cut the BS and just enable it has increased massively, we know they've been able to do it for ages, and while they say its not as simple as just throwing a switch and enabling cross play, the Fortnite incident proved that actually, its so simple that i can happen by accident.

With Xbox now running windows 10 core platform, it'd almost be as simple as installing on PC, and now that Microsoft has thrown the switch on keyboard and mouse controls (not sure if out of beta, but not long surely) playing runescape, at least on Xbox "should" be as seamless as playing it on a PC.

I can't see things being too difficult on other platforms either, especially given so many games are ported across so many platforms now days, the only issue i see being somewhat big is consoles that don't support keyboard and mouse within games, i can already map my xbox controller via steam and play runescape, its not fun in my opinion, it might be better on console with a controller with a bit of optimization, but i can definitely say I'd rather be using a KB & Mouse.

TL;DR:
Lots changed since last look, consoles are opening to crossplay now, reasons Jagex had for not launching RS on console are pretty much gone now, might be worth another look sometime soon.

There’s still the problem of console’s lengthy certification process that would slow updates down for them, causing issues with either Jagex’s weekly update schedule or crossplay capabilities.
Also, still as Pob mentioned, there’s the matter of people wanting to charge for RS.

Runescape right now is to PC/Computer friendly to transfer over to Console imo but if they were to venture into console gaming then I reckon they should look into potentially making a spin-off of sorts based before or during the god wars and being worked as a God of War/Skyrim type of game.

Back then, the console manufacturers hadn't experimented with the Free to Play scene much if at all. In more recent times, all three manufacturers have Free to Play games on their respective stores - so the idea of having to pay for RuneScape is history.

However there are other problems: developers have to pay large amounts of money in order to get each update certified. They can't just release client updates whenever they choose: everything would need to go through the certification process.

Now imagine there was some huge game-wide update which required all the players to update their client, but the console clients fail certification; what would Jagex do? The options would be, delay the entire update (meaning PC/mobile players would have to wait as well), or push ahead with the update (meaning console players couldn't play at all since their client would be outdated, and would be locked-out of the game entirely for weeks or even months).

The other problem is DLC, aka MTX: the console manufacturers will require a portion of all money made via in-game MTX such as membership paid-for over the console-owner's store. It's against the licencing agreement to bypass the PSN/XBox Live, so they would have to deal with that. This means Jagex has two options: keep prices the same as they are on PC, and simply make less money per transaction, or raise all prices across the board on console to cover the expected amount Sony/Microsoft would charge.

Unfortunately those kind of arrangements are part of the deal: you need a license from the console manufacturer to publish a game on their platform, so Jagex would have to agree with the associated costs otherwise they wouldn't be able to create versions for those systems.

This is entirely possible now, as stated below cross-platform play is becoming the norm for some games.

Jagex, I know quite a few people who would be more than happy to play RS on PS4. Whether it be OSRS or RS3, I know for a fact they would be overjoyed to play RuneScape on their main gaming platform!

I know this is going to sound ridiculous, comparing RS to ARK, but ARK started on PC, is now on console, and is also playable on MOBILE.

Heck, I would even pay a one-time fee to download RS on my PS4.

I would love to see RS3 come to console, but the only way that it is going to be even remotely considered is if the full release of RS3 on mobile goes amazing. Even then I don't know if they would consider it for RS3. It would make more sense for them to bring the new unannounced mmo to console before RS3. "
