This afternoon I was trawling through the wiki and happened upon the godsword section (as I often do). While refreshing on some of the lore and usage history aspects of the godswords, I found myself on the entry page for the Godsword Shards (1 and 2) item and noticed that it had the (Discontinued Item) banner on the page. I had completely forgotten these items existed, as I always completed my Godsword Blade and never left it as a combination shard. The page claims that you can no longer use 2 shards on an anvil to combine them and that you must have all 3 to smith with and it crafts the full blade. Skeptical, I bought 2 shards and attempted to combine them and lo and behold, I couldn't. The anvil wanted me to have all 3 base shards and it would give me the full blade.

How rare do you suppose these combination shards are? I know I certainly never held onto one longer than it took to add the 3rd shard. I can't imagine there are too many if any at all (Jagex may have wiped them). Does anyone have one to verify they still exist? They're still in the GE but I can't even get it to buy for 10m.

Do we have the next Half Jug of Wine situation here? An item rarely held onto because of its lack of use, suddenly made discontinued.

Thoughts?

Wiki pages for each item:

https://runescape.wiki/w/Godsword_shards_(1_and_3)

*UPDATE*

Confirmed that these still exist.

*UPDATE 2*

It would appear the Mining and Smithing Rework Flyers are discontinued as well. And for whatever reason, they're tradeable. They aren't in the GE but can be traded in person.

*UPDATE 3* DO NOT buy these! Jagex has stated on Reddit that they will be breaking these items and making them untradable. They are worthless.

I've checked wiki and it doesn't say anywhere discontinued, not sure where you see that. Don't recall anything in patch notes also. Wouldn't really make sense for them to change that tbh. Im pretty sure you also always needed all 3 shards, it didn't let you partially make the blade, all 3 shards=blade

Try here.

You must be using the old fandom wiki. There is now an official Jagex endorsed wiki where the vast majority of the wiki crew migrated to.

Plus, I know for a fact the blade didn't always require all 3 parts to start. It had intermediate incomplete blade versions. They're still in the GE.

I know, I was on the new one. I was on the actual 1 and 3 page separately , not that link. But yeah, the actual shards are still in game, just the mix cant be created anymore, need all 3. So I see what you're saying now. I took it as they removed the shards from drop table

I believe these items are removed from the game. If someone had one of these mixed shards in bank they are probably been splitted. I would like to see a picture if someone still has one of them, or have sold/bought it through ge

I'm quite sure there was a similar case like this before. The Guthix rest potion used to be made a different way, which resulted in a herb tea variation. These herb tea mixes eventually became untradeable when brought to the attention of Jagex.

Jagex will eventually remove the GE entries for the 3 different Godsword Shard combinations. Honestly, it'd probably be easier to just replace all these Godsword Shard combinations with their respective shards, rather than remove them from the game.
Hard -> 3a Range Top (#357), 3a Full Helm (#439), Barrows Dye (#1755, #2546)
Elite -> Shadow Dye (#510, #1970, #1985), Barrows Dye (#680, #1567), 3a Druidic Staff (#969), Ice Dye (#1539)
Master -> Barrows Dye (#480)

I believe those were made untradeable because a popular youtube merching player was manipulating the values and getting his followers to buy into it (with the intention of screwing over everyone who bought in because the item wasn't actually as rare as he claimed). Market trends for these items don't appear to show anyone having stocked up on them before the update so it would seem this one took everyone by surprise. If there's no reason to suspect someone has manipulated the item, then I'm not sure as to how this is any different than the Half Jug of Wine.

There has yet to be set a precedent for Jagex to remove a discontinued tradeable rare without the influence of price manipulation. If they were to do it here, then the only people they'd be hurting are the ones hoping to buy into the latest rare item (like my clanmate who bought one for 10m shortly after I told him they were discontinued despite begging him not to invest that much.)

If someone is actually manipulating them then by all means, go ahead. But if not I see no reason to screw over innocent players who just want to finally be one of the lucky few who were there at the right time to own a rare.
