Skill capes. Back when they were first released the Jagex team did a great job in designing a great looking cape worthy of being the prize worth showing off after obtaining 99 in a skill. These capes are iconic, a true visual that someone can see and say, "yep, that's from Runescape." The shoulder pads, the tassels, the strips that hang at the sides on the back, it is just a great looking cape design! I am so very glad these were brought back (the newer ones just do not compare!)

What I'm going with this is that I, along with many others I'm sure, love the classic design of the RS skillcape. Even after obtaining my Max cape, I still choose to wear my Slayer cape T, because of it's vivid red tassels, and shoulder pads. Now, I am going towards 120 slayer and I feel like once this is reached I will still wear my classic 99 Slayer cape over the 120 one (though it be nice of the symbol were updated). Yet, I still want to show off my 120 slayer...

However, I think it would be coolest thing ever if there was a way to keep the classic 99 skillcape look with added particles at the end! I don't know why, but I feel this would just look awesome. So this is my suggestion give us the ability to somehow have classic 99 skillcapes with particle effects. Perhaps this could be a 120 retro skillcape and be able to happen at the check or uncheck of an option somewhere?

Support for classic styled 120 capes!

Edit:
So I obtained 120 slayer and was switching from the 120 Cape to the og 99 slayer skillcape, which left the particles on the og 99 slayer skill Cape and it looked so awesome! This needs to happen now! Make it a 200mxp skillcape, idc, I'll get 200mxp on slayer for this!

I guess that contradicts the spirit of retro capes.

Retro capes were re-introduced for the kind of players who didn't liked the new style and want to look oldschool - and thus they should remain. Exactly the same thing they always were back then when they were introduced 13 years ago - particles certainly aren't retro.

You honestly should decide for either world - either new or old, but certainly not something in between which would be neither.

I understand. Though, I honestly don't believe people wanted the old skillcapes back because they were retro or looked retro. The old design simply looked better. When the new skillcape designs were released they looked horrible and still do design wise. They're small, flimsy, barely noticable, and have those weird tassels that look like ugly plain knockoffs of the originals. The better shadings and symbols, do not really help them when the design is a flop.

It's just a suggestion that I and many others may like. If it doesn't happen I'll continue to wear my classic slayer Cape t.

You know that you are talking about something very subjective?

Style is something that everybody has to decide on their own - and I see enough of the new (99) skill capes either. In terms of pure quality the new ones are obviously better, since the measurable parameters just get better over time - but when some players can't stand their style subjectively they just drop back to an old item - nothing bad with that.

But just don't act like the old ones have an higher production quality, just because you like their style more.

Quality (detail wise really) wise the new ones are of course better. I'm talking about design, which the old ones clearly have a better one. Which I'm sure most would agree on. It's the reason they brought them back in the first place like a day or 2 after the update of the new ones. The older capes are bigger, making them more noticeable, and have more vivid colors, especially with the tassels, again making them more eye appealing.

Yes, people will like different things because people are different. But there are still certain things people in general will like more this is why many people will like some celebrities or works of art. This is how a master piece of music is considered one as the masses enjoy it. Old design was and is better, period. Jagex should have never changed it in the first place, but that is another topic.

i believe its based on some traditional attire when receiving degree etc

but thats not the point of thread but yeah

i disagree sorry. for one i dont why people care so much on particles... its a very odd concept to me being like " I WANT PARTICLES!!!!!"

this is just "i prefer this cosmetic look please make a change to something iconic" you are right it is iconic so dont change it

This is not a suggestion to change the 99 skillcapes. It is a suggestion to have the option of 120 capes, with the classic design, simply with the addition of particles. Those who wish to wear the 99 classic capes or newer ones or current 120 capes can still do so. This suggestion is not to change anything that is in game, but to add to it.

This is giving respect to the original design, by keeping it and simply adding to it.

I can understand where you say the retro skillcapes look better than the new ones, though I am going to go ahead and assume that someone who started playing today would not necessarily agree. I.e. I chalk up your opinion at least partly to nostalgia.

When it comes to 120 capes though they actually do look pretty good. I don't think it is nearly as true to say that retro 99 capes are better designed than the 120 capes. If you really like your Slayer 99 cape, which I don't blame you, then keepsake it and wear it overtop your 120 cape. People who examine you will be able to see the 120 cape on and you can still use the cape you like more.
