Generally, if something is the new Best-In-Slot, then it is made degradable to offset this. That is fine. However, due to power creep, once-BiS gear that is degradable has been made merely mid-level.It seems a little odd to have almost everything T70 and on degradable or need charging, doesn't it? Gear such as this, including barrows equipment, could be upgraded with some basic components and the invention skill to make it non-degradable. This would not be available for any gear, say, T85 and higher, at least not until more power creep has raised the equipment tier cap to around 100. Vote YES to Warding!

Items are degradable because the game needs gold sinks to combat inflation. Currently, the game doesn't have enough gold sinks. This issue was compounded with the release of invention which made most degradable gear augmentable, removing the required coin payment to an npc which removed coins from the system. Now, there is even less gold leaving the game.

I don't think we should be removing any gold sinks from the game when we're sorely in need of more.

Agreed.

No support.

Just augment items or use nondegrades if you dont want to deal with repair costs.

I think degradation isn't that bad as a mechanic - degrade to broken at least. But you basically mentioned the solution for 3 of your slots - use the invention skill to augment those items. If the remaining slots are too expensive - stick to non-degrading alternatives. Anima core armour was introduced for a reason. If you want a non-degrading t80 weapon grab Swordy McSwordFace - it just covers melee, but it's better than nothing, right?

It is a bit ironic that most armours past 90 do not remove a single coin from the economy after their creation (and some not even for that - specific sets of gloves and boots) - and t92 magic and ranged armours are so asinine to use otherwise they're mostly (can I use solely?) used in an environment in which they do not cause any upkeep costs at all, right?

I mean - Jagex having introduced no degradation exceptions for the most powerful armour ingame just shouts out something went horribly wrong in there, right?

I have made my opinions on this in previous threads. I do not like the fact that they've stopped using high end gear as gold sinks. High end gear will always be the best place to put gold sinks, as they are typically owned by the players who have the most stockpiled gold.

If you all are correct, then why were so many items added for the sole purpose of being consumed to repair items? And what about untraceable, irreparable items?

Level 70 gear shouldn't degrade. That makes it completely useless, especially when there is non-degradable t75 and t80 gear around. There's no reason to use Necronium when normal Barrows is around.

One is cheaper. That's why it gets used.

Ironmen can more easily make Necronium long before they'd get a full set of barrows to drop. That's why it gets used.
