Preface: this post is the first of many and part of a larger network; ultimately, the intention here is to make t60 gears f2p (with the exception of dragon). For more, visit the mother thread: http://services.runescape.com/m=forum/sl=0/forums.ws?185,186,604,66101229

Abstract: this post gives two options for approaching the topic of adding Grifolic equipment to f2p, both as organically obtainable items and via the GE.

Option One (the long one): Adding the Polypore Dungeon to f2p would require several tweaks.

-It is unrealistic to add Ganodermic Beasts into f2p, thus the most realistic option is to make the bottom floor p2p content.
-The 75 agility shortcut is not passable with capped-5 agility, thus half the dungeon is excluded.
-Fungal Rodent, Infested Axe, Fungal Mage, Grifolaroo, and Grifolapine drop tables would need to be given a f2p variant.

The problem, somewhat obviously, is that slayer is required for Grifolaroos and Grifolapines to be killable (as well as Ganodermic Runts). There are a couple options here, again with large amounts of requisite work needed:

-Optionally, Ganodermic Runts could be absent in f2p, or else present but unkillable, and thus added only as an extra roadblock. In any event, they shouldn't be f2p-killable.
-82 and 88 slayer for Grifolaroos and Grifolapines, respectively, is a high requirement for the quality of their drops being generally-unused, over-expensive, and t-60. Two possible routes here would be either dropping/lowering the slayer requirement (albeit probably not to 5, for f2p), or replacing the monsters with weakened variants in f2p, killable without slayer. Admittedly, this would kill their content and value in p2p (for slayer tasks).

I am unsure which would be the best path, at this point, but a second overall option is a fairly easy one, and one that needn't add the dungeon itself to f2p: add a Skinweaver npc to the entrance, selling Grifolic equipment at, say, +50% their ge value.

Isn't the dungeon predominantly slayer-themed? Wouldn't really make sense for half its mobs to be reworked for F2P purposes. Also, what's with this desire to push F2P equipment up to T60?

I'm going to have to say "no support".

Issue 1: The Creatures within
Fungal creatures would be killable by F2P as they have a Slayer Level req't of 1.
But they don't drop too much of note.

Issue 2: Gorajan Mushrooms would crash
Given time, the influx of bots killing the Fungal Rats, Mages, and Axes would definitely add enough mushrooms to the market to drop the overall value.
Thus 1 of the moneymakers from the Beasts would get crippled, considering the hit we've already seen to Tree Seeds.

Issue 3: Other gear
There isn't really any harm in the Mycellium Web Armor or Fungal Mage armor going F2P, but they would be pointless as they are T10 and T25 magic armor. F2P already has plenty at that tier and better.

Issue 4: Could just make the T60 wand and orb tradeable to F2P
Devs have done things to make it so F2P would be able to get or make the gear they have access to.
Thus content like Mystic Robes and Blue D-hide and Magic Bows was made available in shops and made craftable/fletchable my making the majority of the components accessible on F2P. (ie: Fletching was made 99 on F2P, Mystic Cloth and Blue Dragons can be found on F2P worlds)

But there are things like the Treasure Trail armors that F2P can use but the only way to get it is via trading/GE or bringing over after your own stint of P2P ended.

Issue 5: it'd be non-degradeable
F2P does have T60 Corrupt Dragon Weapons. These degrade to nothing after a period of time and drop from REvenants even on F2P servers.
F2P does have Gud Raider, a non-degrading T55 weapon, shield and power body.
F2P does have the Gravite Equipment at T55, but it does degrade and requires a lowish Dungeoneering Level.

Grifolic orb/wand however do not degrade.
I'm not sure how widely used these are on P2P. 60 to 70 can be a fairly annoying gap to cover, and there aren't a whole lot of weapon options over that range (once you hit 70, boy howdy do you have options)

Lots to comment on, I see. Seeing as you all surely read my first post and not just the title, you'll know I'm also somewhat skeptical of how the Polypore Dungeon could viably be made f2p. The Skinweaver npc selling Grifolic pieces at the entrance is by far the easiest implementation and seems the one least-riddled with whatever ulterior motive and market shenanigans I have planned. What would you think of just the npc being added, and the Dungeon itself remaining un-enterable in f2p?

I guess it might cause balancing issues on multiple levels:

- F2p Magic would have a combination of degrade-to-broken and non-degradable t60 tank equipment available then, melee only degrade-to-dust power, ranged nothing at all. They honestly should try to fix the existing balancing issues, before ripping even more open.
- Standard T60 might be a tad bit too high to be simply sold in a shop available for everybody. I am certainly not totally against the idea in general, but those shops should either be located in high levelled areas or quest or guild locked then.

Yes. Which is why I also believe tier-60 ranged equivalents (some sort of degradable black dragonhide) should also be added to the game, but as I mentioned, one piece of the puzzle at a time, and this post is dedicated to the t-60 mage gear introductions. An easy fix to the mismatch of degrading and non-degrading state of Grifolic gear (which also exists that way in p2p) would really just be to make it the same. Make the weapons and gloves degrade just the same as the armour pieces do, and add Grifolic Boots to the game.

Future threads will cover the introduction of 10h-degradable Orikalkum Armour to the game, as well as 10h-degradable Black Dragonhide.

As for being sold from a shop, I agree, but a f2p-accessible Polypore Dungeon sounds like a lot more work, given what would need to change and how Slayer is so involved. If not a shop to attain Grifolic pieces from in f2p, what would you suggest, aside from simply the ge or scrubbing the idea?
