Ever since 30 April 2009, free players with an excess of 12.5 million overall experience could access the forums without having membership credit. This limit was lowered, on 15 March, 2010, to 5M overall experience, which was again changed on 14 June 2010 so non-members with a total level 500 could participate in the forums. This was, once again, changed on 5 November 2010 to allow free players with a total level of 350 to post.

I think after the past year of watching these forums being flooded with alternate accounts in desperate attempts to repeat points to either act like something matters more, or to derail and trash threads, the minimum level for nonmembers to access the forums should be significantly re-raised.

While I know getting people on the forums is important, the minimum level is far too low and the amount of posts coming from people with no hi scores and no post count/history, posting on threads that discuss possible game-changing updates, is way too high.

A 350 skill total can be done so freaking easily, the fact is, especially since they are selling/giving away large amounts of gold and xp now, its wayyy too easy for anybody to make an entire series, or army, of Forum Alts. Would you rather make alts pay for membership to post here? or make the person use their accounts for a day?

If a pure f2p really wants to be on the forums, they can do the required work. If people complain, they should take note that it's people who abuse alts like this that are why this should be done.

Surely I'm not the only person who thinks it's easy to spot an alternate account here, and surely I'm not the only person who thinks abusing threads with alts needs to be heavily reduced.

I will ask you guys how high you think the minimum should be. Would you recommend a minimum xp? Or a minimum level?

I don't see a reason to change it at all, to be honest. While 'throwaway accounts' used on the forums have popped up here and there over the many years the forums have been in existence, changing the F2P limit won't really have much of an effect on 'ending that'.

From what I've seen, if someone is determined to use an alt on the forums, 9 times out of 10 that account has membership. If the account appears to not have hiscores on either RS3 or OSRS (a 350 total on either gives forum access after all), chances are the account owner used a bond to make the account a member, at which point any F2P level/xp restrictions are null and void.

I don't think this solution would have much, if any, affect on the issue you perceive and wish for it to solve.

I think 350s fine, used to be like 1000. Def needs a lvl req to keep out spam bots, if spamming got bad they'd just raise it, seems they had no need to for like 7 years, don't see the demand now.

People would probably have alts handy and ready to go in advance so I don't see how raising does much other than keep out newer people. You won't really be keeping out those bad apples anyways all they need is like 3 alts lvl 1000ish to be ok forever. Plus they're passionate enough to keep doing it so it only hinders the inevitable by a week.

I think membership and 1 day would be pointless since people that want to be jerks have backups ready to go. I saw a huge wave of alts with the ge design change thread, 1 post lvl 350s for like 12 pages. They went off the game poll I'd envision not just an alt army posting.

I don't think alt posting has been a big enough problem across the forums atm to warrant this change.

This^.

No support.

This is just another attempt at a "forum ignore list".

@applejuice, I disagree that they "pop up here and there." I look at the post count, post history, and metrics/hiscores of every new face in a thread I'm active in. I see throwaway accounts on absolutely every thread these days.

@Draco, This is not just a "forum ignore list." I know you wont agree with anything I say anyway so do us all a favor and just say No Support like you always do. we know your answer and we know your reasons.

@wolfblue, you may think the alt problem "hasn't gotten bad enough to warrant action" but I think it has gotten to that point and I would rather it be minimized sooner than later.

I personally think they should make it a minimum XP again, because a total level is as simple as getting level 20-50 in all of your skills for a 500 or 1k total, and that can be done without even getting 5m xp.

Already asked the question "Would you prefer these alts buy membership to temporarily use the forums? or would you rather they have permanent access for working for less than a day?"

which I personally answer, I would rather them pay to rent forum access whether it be via 20m GP for 2 weeks or dollars, than to simply buy a cheaper series of xp gains in easy skills to gain low levels for free permanent access.
