To start, I am aware this topic is widely discussed, and I am just here to Reiterate. This next section is me rationalizing myself so if you want to skip to my solution skip to the next paragraph.

I did some research on the topic and honestly, it doesn't look like there has been a conclusion to this. Some people said the game engine couldn't support un-trimming or it was too much code to write, But I just don't understand why this is not a feature yet. There are tons of people who do videos on untrimmed "Road to X" videos and just happy with their first 99, And we must do glitches (That were apparently patched than un-patched so instead of fixing the issue they re-broke it, but I couldn't find a confirmation on this) to keep it. Now as a UIM we cannot use banks so even with the glitch we now must carry the cape around with us at all times, the cape rack will trim it and it is un-tradeable, so a loot bag will not work to at least store it. I will list off a few ideas I have on the situation and hopefully we can add this small feature to please even a small chunk of the community. I Myself had the goal of an untrimmed slayer cape, but by doing so I now restrict myself even further by not being able to do wilderness activities as if I lose the cape, it is in no way re obtainable once I have a 2nd 99.

Suggestions:

1. Perdu - If your cape was lost you can simply buy it back, He can already return god books
with specific page counts so just make it so the first untrimmed skill cape you get
is re-obtainable for 99k, and only that cape of course or the shop will look busy.

2 Skill cape Master - Simply add an unlockable dialogue on your first 99 with the respective
skill cape master to be able to sell you both versions of the cape

3 Toggle - This has been said before but possibly adding a Boolean variable to determine
weather the cape is the first cape of accomplishment or not.

Thank-you

agree, i don't see why this isn't a thing. untrimmed capes and the goal of getting one is quite popular and should be supported. another way it could be done perhaps is with recolour mechanics similar to what's already part of the game with graceful etc. with the first 99 u get access to a kit that keeps your cape untrimmed, and if you lose the cape for whatever reason you can always get another kit to turn that cape (and only that cape) back into its untrimmed version.

I believe the diary cape can be trimmed/untrimmed at will so idk why regular skillcapes can't. It doesn't sit right that the only way to get/keep certain capes is bug abuse.

i don't see it being too hard to code in the option when you buy a 99 cape for the NPC to go "do you wan't trimmed, or untrimmed" and let you buy both options.

Either that or a toggle option, but i feel that first option would be easier, and a nice little 100k gold sink here and there for maxed players.

Ugh. Gravebump.

To clarify:

It is possible, but not for people who already obtained their first 99. The game does not currently track your first 99. As such, any system they design to allow you to keep your untrimmed cape would only benefit people currently without a 99.

Because the game was not designed to track your first 99, and it has no way of knowing that currently.

It simply checks whether or not you have two or more 99s. If you do, your cape is trimmed. If you only have one, it's untrimmed.

Jagex did not anticipate people caring about the less prestigious cape.

I don't think this would solve the issue.

People care about which 99 was their first. If you can get the untrimmed at any point, then untrimmed doesn't mean that is your only 99.
I'll keep score from now on.

This would be easy to code, on RS3 I have an untrimmed Slayer cape keepsaked. If it's possible in RS3, I'm sure it's possible in OSRS to do something similar. (I'm not suggesting keepsake keys, for the mentally challenged out there).
Never drop a valuable item.

Yes, but it would only benefit people who obtain a 99 after the update. It is impossible to know the game to recognize which 99 was your first because that information was never being tracked before.

They're different games with different engines, so... no.
I'll keep score from now on.
