Hello OSRS community and Jagex,

I am suggesting implementing an auto-attack feature that can be toggled on
to allow a person's character to automatically attack nearby monsters within
a designated amount of spaces from the point the feature is toggled.

So if fighting monsters within a dungeon where there are several of the
same monsters nearby a person can use this feature to continuously
attack those monsters without having to re-click every time a monster
is killed.

The person would be able to set the distance of squares each time they
toggle the feature, up to 20 squares or so, to ensure their character does
not wander off into some dangerous territory further than the monster
they want to fight. They would also be required to re-click on a monster
after so many monsters have been killed, perhaps after 5 or 10 kills.

There are already many skills that are automatically completed: fishing, cooking,
crafting, herblore, construction, woodcutting, fletching, etc. To have this feature
would make for more convenient combat for players, without totally making
combat an AFK activity. This feature would not auto-collect items dropped by
the monsters or anything other than attacking; the player would still have to
drink potions, eat food, and switch prayers.

So you are against all the skills that I mentioned? Because all of those skills
are ez scape... three or so clicks to produce many potions, bows, platebodies, etc.

Currently combat is ez scape anyway, one click to fight a monster for the whole
duration up until it dies, you would prefer to click every time you want to
swing your sword or cast a spell?

It will only allow for automatic attacking of up to a certain amount of monsters
to ensure the player is still actually present.

All those skills you mentioned have a limit on how long they can go. I don't know of any construction that you can do except on the tool bench making clocks or things that allow you to keep going.

Your suggestion would allow people to go afk for 20 minutes and get tons of melee exps. There is enough backlash against mage splashing that this has zero chance to pass.
Stop being a entitled snowflake. If you want something in game, earn it rather than demand it be given to you.

if you want to attack an npc, click on it instead of asking jagex to click it for you.

Do you guys even care to read the entirety of the suggestion?

I clearly state that this suggestion would only limit the character to
killing a SET NUMBER amount of monsters. With that limit being
something small like 5 to 10.

At no point do I say "Herrrr derrrr, auto-attack forever, herrr derrr"
No, that is called macroing.

It is just something that makes combat similar to how other skills
can be trained, why is combat so sacred to you guys?

Thanks for actually replying and aiding in the discussion of such a feature.

They would not go afk that long as once 5-10 monsters are killed they would have to re-click on another monster.

You make a good point on the guaranteed duration limits that accompany the other skills "Complete X amount" function as those are more straightforward durations.
I would not say they would get tons of exp since the limit would just be 5-10 monsters killed per action. It is a feature that is just applying what already exists for other skills towards combat, which apparently is a big issue for OSRS players.

Mage splashing has been a thing for so long as well, this would not be as afk as mage splashing which is infinite since the monster is continuing to attack you and not be killed.
