when you make an mmorpg it needs to be designed correctly so people shouldnt just get handed free money because it ruins games economy/people shouldnt get free items etc.

the game shouldnt be to difficult thats its unfun.

the game shouldnt be to easy because its no challenge

etc basically im saying it should be balanced so the point im making is the game has to much grind thats unneccessary, basically grind thats not neccessary for a game to work well and unneccessary for people ingame that it just slows down the game and makes it unfun.

for example there is no probable reason why i should have to do a quest to wear a rune platebody. It makes no sense why i need to do a quest when i could just buy one then put it on,it makes no sense why i should have to go kill a dragon to wear one.

what is the difference between getting defence requirement and buying and equipping one and having to do a quest to equip one, its just unneccessaary grind.

im not saying take away defence/str/attack etc these are all ok because your training your character its ok grinding but once you get strong enough i should be able to wear the item.I shouldnt have to do a quest to wear it, its just unneccessary grinding.

other examples are agility what a lame boring skill there is no reason why i cant attempt to climb through a pipe like everyoneelse maybe if we had agility if you trained it maybe you would have a higher chance of succeeding but there is no good reason why anyone cant attempt to climb through a pipe like everyoneelse.

other examples:many different quests to achieve access to different areas/items/armor etc.
many different skills woodcutting/firemaking/farming/hunter/fletching/fishing/mining etc there is no reason why someone cant attempt to do these things like everyoneelse.

its not a bad idea to have these skills maybe after certain levels you start to get better at certain things but someone shouldnt be held back by unneccessary grind.

Quest requirements are interesting. Items with quest requirements give those quests flavor and make them worthwhile beyond some arbitrary quest point count. It also makes the items more unique and gives them a recognizable source.

As for calling them "unnecessary grinds," I think you really overestimate the time it takes to do those quests. Monkey Madness takes only a fraction of the time it takes to get to 60 Attack, for example.

OSRS is all about the grind, and I think it's unfair to characterize any part of earning the rewards in the game as "unnecessary." None of those items would be nearly as rewarding if not for the quest requirements they're locked behind making them feel more special than any regular armor you can just find and wear at any time. The quest requirements are entirely necessary.

we should think about the game overall and the players coming into the game if we removed unneccessary grinding people would be able to log into the game more and be able to play and experience more and not be held back by unneccessary grinding slowing them down resulting in a larger playerbase

im working on monkey madness 2 and its just a bunch of annoying mazes and patterns and such things, im ok at the game and im watching a guide on it. think about how lost and confused newer players are when they are learning how to play runescape with the grinding and confusing content thats just endless and so much micro management.

while other games are having millions in their playerbase oldschool runescape has confusing difficult endless grinding that is just difficult for people in general and probably very difficult for newer players

Have you thought about playing unrestricted worlds? They are basically what you want, and they get inactive pretty quickly.

do you think these mazes and such things in quests that only set the player back when you fail does anything to make the game funner.

or that you have to have a quest requirement to wear/equip/go anywhere in the game makes anything funner or more interesting for players.

or having to have insanely high agility that is boring lame and unfun to train to be able to jump over tiny rocks or crawl through pipes makes the game any funner for players.

im saying remove this annoying stuff and leave the rest of the game as it is
