Hey,
i don't own a smart phone, only one of those old mobile phones without touchscreen.

In the past i have been using Authy Chromium plugin to generate Codes to set-up two factor authentication for RuneScape.
But i disabled multi device on Authy app in Chromium, and wiped my laptop's disk, so i can't access Authy upon new install on my laptop. Unless i contact Authy and recover, but the process will take up 24 hours, and ... even worse, i don't have access to the email registered to the Authy account.

What a mess ... long story short:

All i need right now is some way to generates one-time codes, that i can use with two-factor authentication on RuneScape.

[WARNING] i don't promote this app, and i do NOT encourage people to use it!
If it's against the RuneScape rules, please remove this post a.s.a.p

However my question is about Authenticator app i found in the Chrome Webstore:

Is using the "Authenticator" app offered by, "authenticator.cc" in the Chrome Web Store, approved by Jagex, as legit method to generate one-time pass-codes?

Again, i would like to warn, about the risk for using third-party two factor authentication apps.
So please do NOT install the app, that is included in my question.
It might put your account at risk.

Just want to know: Is it approved by Jagex as two factor generator?

Hi there
Frostqix

If you are locked out of your account by your Authenticator, you will need to disable it.
Then you can set a new one up.

I also don't use a phone based Authenticator.
I just used the one from this page: Setting the Authenticator - Mobile Device and followed the instructions for 'can't scan the code' in instruction #5.

Hey
Malua
, Thanks for the quick response,

Because i don't have that much options available to generate one-time codes, because i only own one Linux laptop + old mobile phone (not smart phone) i was looking for methods to generate one-time codes.

Right now i took some risk, and installed Chrome Extension called: Authenticator
It's a Chromium browser plugin, that just generated one-time code for RuneScape, and it worked fine, i'm online in RuneScape now, and 2 step authentication is enabled.
On the "Authenticator" Chrome Browser extension (not officially supported by Google) i also set up a password to access the plugin.

I'm not sure if i'm allowed to use this app, or will i receive a ban for using this app?

The reason i personally would like to use it, is because i don't need to own an active mobile phone number to generate codes.

I will use the Chrome Browser Extension: Authenticator (not official supported by Google)
at my own risk, and hope i won't get in trouble.

Thanks for the assistance

You won't get a ban for using anything that isn't modifying the games memory directly, or isn't otherwise a bot, although I'll speak nothing for the apps you've recommended (bar authy), as I've not heard of them.

Honestly, I'd recommend considering using a proper password manager which would also provide the TOTP passcodes, the one I use in particular is KeePassXC (which is a fork of KeePassX which is a fork of KeePass), the reason I'd recommend XC is because it puts in more effort for the UI to work on multiple platforms natively, but otherwise Keepass is one of the software choices the EU has chosen to invest money into security research in and the forks benefit from this too since they all share a common database format.

The database is hosted locally (though you could sync it via google drive or such, including USB's and the like) and if you manage to get into the habit of using a password manager for every service, you'll be much more secure than you would otherwise.

The fact it solves TOTP for you is a nice cherry on top (though arguably it's best if your TOTP generator isn't the same as your password manager, but I do so anyway, and in your situation where you only have one device, this is fairly unavoidable).

Hello again
Hmm
:)

I just searched the www about keepassxc, it is available in the Arch repositories, and i will definitely have a look at keepassxc.

Are you sure keepassxc can generate onetime pass codes for RuneScape?
If so, then i would prefer keepassxc, above the "Authenticator" app in Chromium Webstore.

Thanks
Hmm
!! for the advise about keepassxc.
I just installed it on Arch Machine to try it out, and it looks awesome! I did not even knew about keepassxc existence, and i will certainly look further into it. Thanks a lot mate !

[EDIT]
Hey Hmm, Again Thanks for telling me about keepassxc, it's amazing piece of software, and i just finished setting it up for generating 2 factor authentication codes for both my Linux Laptop and for RuneScape.

In my opinion, i think Jagex should recommend keepassxc, as the way to go for setting up two factor authentication on RuneScape.

And what is also nice about it: You don't even need to own a phone number to use it!
Oh and it's Free Software :D

Thanks Hmm :)
