You know the old saying if something isn't broken, why fix it? That sums up my feelings on this completely pointless and aggravating update. I hate everything about it. Mining and Smithing were my two favorite skills in this game up until this update, and they are now my least favorite. I felt such accomplishment when after ages of mind-numbing grinding in the living rock caverns I FINALLY hit level 85 mining and was able to mine smith and sell rune, and now all that hard work seems to have been for squat (honestly, I believe that aspect of the update was just a big f*** you to free players).

As for Smithing, it just makes no damn sense. They took a fairly easy to understand skill and over complicated it. I didn't really understand invention at first, but I kept at it and I eventually got the hang of it, and now I think it's pretty cool. But this, I just do not get it, and believe me I tried. It is WAY too complicated. The old way was much better.

I understand that the game is always evolving, but this is just too much. I agree that Mining and Smithing needed to be tweaked, but not completely overhauled like this. Having to completely re-learn how to play a game makes it feel like a totally different game, and makes me not want to play it at all anymore. I REALLY wish Jagex would have collected more feedback on ALL of the SPECIFIC changes being made before they made them (i.e. remember the EOC update fiasco?).

I know I'll be getting a lot of hate for this comment, and you can all give me plenty of reasons why I'm wrong, and that's fine. But it still won't change my opinion on this dumpster fire of an update. I hate it, and that's that. I'm not going to be a baby and quit RS because of it, but I'm damn sure never touching Mining or Smithing again, unless they revert to the old ways (like they did with Legacy Mode) but I don't see that happening this time around. Guess I'll be playing a lot more OSRS now. Anyway, that's my rant. Let the hate commence!

It is more complex, but not to the point where it is difficult. Are you not happy that you can now smith T80 gear instead of a junk T50? 5 more levels and you can make some really nice gear. The Smithing skill was only a skill up until the update. Just a level to raise your total basically. Now it is useful all the way to the end.

Hope you can see the bright side of this :P it is a good improvement for F2P as well.
Cheers.

They spent over a year and a half collecting community feedback. Everyone was generally positively receptive of the new methods.

If you're having trouble understanding it, I wrote a guide a while back and would be happy to explain things to you.

I just wish the rework gave a better tutorial and not pages and pages full of mind-numbing tutorials. My management training classes at work were more fun to take than the tutorials on here.... and this is a game!!!

Honestly I really like the mining changes. With new ores to find and ensuring they are useful across MULTIPLE levels, it was a much needed update. Smithing I could take or leave it, but...the ability to just upgrade my armor every ten levels is not a bad thing. Before one would have to rely on rare boss drops and sheer luck to get anything decent past a point, this helps enable a sort of 'bare minimum' of sorts...which means future content can be balanced around people having this minimum rather then hoping they have a boss drop.

I actually like the update, mining and smoothing rune actually has a purpose and it's new lower lever makes more sense. Why should you need to have 80 to 99 mining and smithing for something you can use around level 40? Not to mention that you had to go in the wilderness and hope you found an empty world after countless world hopping. Mining feels much less a chore and more enjoyable to do but that's my opinion.
