Just cancelled my membership on my only rs3 account. When cancelling, they told me that it'd be good to hop over to forums to make a comment or two. That's what I'm here for!

After spending quite a long time defending rs3, I've finally made the decision to jump ship to OSRS. I know how whiny it usually sounds when people make posts like this, so I'm going to try my absolute best to keep it "professional" or whatever.

To start off, I've always been the guy who likes to talk about "progression" and how "change is good". I've always kinda had this stance that nostalgia alone shouldn't be the only reason to play a game (in the case of osrs)-- but I'm starting to see the other side of things.

D E A D C O N T E N T
There so SO much dead content in rs3. I understand that it must be super difficult to combat stuff like this. Jagex can't control what players do and don't do. Totally get it. But sometimes I want to play the game like it's meant to be played-- for fun! I want to play fist of guthix. I want to play soul wars. I want to play castle wars. I want to do clan wars. I want pvp. I want to play a game where people are actually interested in interaction.
When i hop into a spotlight minigame, it's full of people just standing around. And I don't mean just a few people, I mean everyone. Nobody even plays castle wars in an entirely full game-- how is this okay? I won't even bring up that "heist" minigame-- I read that JaGex actually made that game AFK on purpose! Lol! Why?!
I'm not a comp-er, so it wouldn't really be fair for me to sit here and say comp-ers are ruining the game. But it really seems like those people are having a negative effect on the game for a lot of other players (like me).

(not sure how much else I have to say, but I'll keep going in my next post)

I've tried multiple times to get friends onto rs3. Osrs people, WoW people, non-gamer people, the whole 9 yards. It just doesn't work. I have to see it from their point of view-- what's the point? The game revolves around "max" everything. New gear, tier 80. New gear, tier 92. New boss, level 1000, new boss, level 2500, new gear, level 95. This isn't appealing to a large percentage of players (in my opinion). Not to mention activites that require a group of players-- good luck finding any other lower levelled players.

It's tough. I know they have to appease the masses, which are, for the most part, high levelled players. But it "feels" like they're doing all of this at the expense of, well, EVERYONE else.

(didn't mention yet, i'm level 135 cb. ~2200 total level, just over 200qp)

The more I type out, the more scatter-brained this whole post feels. I apologize for that. I'm not great at organizing my thoughts. lol.

As i said before, I tried not to get too whiny with this, but it's hard. Runescape has been a part of my life for a looooong time. I've always considered rs3 to be the "real" runescape, but things are changing.

I'll end it here. These are my thoughts. I don't want to offend anyone or make anyone mad, I just wanted to give some parting thoughts as I cancelled my membership. I hope I'll be back eventually, but it'll take quite a change of tide. In the mean time, I'll be on my UIM, mining tin ore, or whatever. haha.

Forum mod can move it for me. When i cancelled my membership, it said I should share my thoughts on the runescape forum for updates. Here I am. Don't really care if I put it in the wrong place. I don't go on the forums-- I just play the game.

Taking breaks is always healthy. RS3 will still be around if you wanted to check back in after several years or months or however long you need.

But also it's good to grow up and pursue new interests. I would say you should even consider trying other games, if you normally don't. I find quite often people who play RS only play RS, since it can be such a time sink. Exploring new alternatives is an opportunity you don't always give yourself.

As to the climate of the game, I think decay is a natural part of the life cycle of anything. I don't think very many games last 20 years and maintain the same vivaciousness they had when they started. Runescape is no different. Yes, there may be some excitement and thrill on OSRS but it is younger and I don't think it can last forever either.

I haven't thought about it that way, Kopaka. Thanks for the insight. I'm starting my first post-college full-time job this week-- maybe I'm getting too swept up in all the life changes.

I don't doubt that I'll be back someday, I just hope the game still even exists.

Well as it has already endured 20 years I am pretty confident it will still be here. Who knows though, tomorrow is not a guarantee. It might not still be here in two weeks. But given the history of the game so far I have no reason to think it's going to go away any time soon.

Definitely take time to find your priorities and spend time on what matters when you are going through big life changes. It's a good decision to cancel a subscription membership cuz that -as I said in the first post - is a big time sink that can be detrimental to your emotional and intellectual resources while going through this stuff. A little relaxation is healthy but usually stuff like RS is more than just a little relaxation.
