Wait, Internet Explorer still exists? I thought that piece of crap was gone after recycling it into the equally bad Microsoft Edge and recycling the logo.

Yes, it still exists and I'm sure you have it on your computer too if you actually look for it ;)
Unless you're using mac or linux of course.

The horror! And I can't even remove it like I can remove other programs. I can even remove Edge if I want, but IE isn't listed as a program. The only reason Edge is on my pc is the changing login background of Windows as the links to similar pictures only works through Edge. If it could go through Chrome, I would delete it again immediately.

If you download NXT do you have to uninstall the Java client first?

The Java client isn't downloadable, it's the browser version. The only downloadable version is NXT.

The downloadable Java client is still available here

Oh, seems I was wrong. I thought the Java client was the browser version, apparently not.

You're not wrong, it's actually both. There's no substantial technical difference to the Java client in the browser or out, just an interface thing (and ensuring the version of Java they have is a fairly modern one, in the case of the downloaded version)

Oh, so the downloadable Java client is basically a browser that can only run RS?

So what you need to do Jagex, is put in a system to the NXT that remembers your light settings for area's so it is automatic to what the user wants for that area. Yes, it is being lazy not to have to adjust the lighting every 10 squares I move, but I prefer to be able to see what I am doing without the hassle.

That would be handy in such a case. I can give you my support if you make a thread in the content suggeston forums for this.

I bought a new laptop just for the rs game. Even it will not support NXT. So for many of us, if it is not java, it is no game.

Buying a laptop is risky, I've bought a gaming laptop with a severly out-of-date graphics card. Since I only play RS, it took a long while (release of NXT) before realizing that I payed around €2.000 for something that's worth a lot less.

Bottom line: not every laptop out there is worth buying.

As for the wilderness view distance, I don't think it would be increased if Java was removed, it'd match the lowest draw distance NXT is capable of, which I think is still the same as Java, such as to ensure better specs don't make you a better pker by default.

Was going to say the same thing.
Even if the minimum draw distance on NXT is larger than that of Java, I don't mind keeping it the way it is. The Wildy isn't supposed to be safe, so not knowing if someone might be quite closeby without seeing him/her adds to the thrill and fear.

There are indeed things that Java causes NXT to be held back. There was an outfit some months ago that caused Java to crash if anyone within view was wearing it while NXt had no problems at all.

@Molly Weazly:
You can have a try with NXT and see if things go haywire for you. For the few people that complain there are a lot more that don't. Most NXT issues only happen on a handful of devices. I've got three devices (one more powerful than the other) and all three have no NXT-related issues.
If you encounter one issue doing your trial and report it, perhaps it is fixed by the time Java is removed? Otherwise it might only start bugging you when Java is gone with no option to avoid it anymore.

Shit. What kind of graphic design were you doing with that desktop? A Quadro 5000 isn't exactly cheap you know.

CPU's a little old, and Workstation GPU's aren't exactly tuned for gaming, but you should be able to run NXT on that thing.

Indeed. I can have NXT run (fps like 10 on minimal settings) on a Nvidia 230M. Opening any other programs usually freezes up the whole laptop until RS logs me out due to inactivity, but apart from that it works. A 300M should be able to handle NXT too.

* Screen goes black (shows loading status) during teleports

Whilst this can be representitive of a slow hard drive / cpu combo, it's also quite likely since your NXT installation was fresh you didn't have the entire game cache downloaded. The whole game is about 6GB, and you only download the bits you need as you need them. The result of this is that the first times going to areas, particularly via teleportation, you can have a substantial loading screen whereas subsequent times take much shorter.

There's a setting to remove the loading bar when teleporting/using ships/other transportation methods. Go to yor settings, the graphics tab, and the second checkbox from the bottom in the second column is the one you need. Be warned for some trippy stuff when everything is loading in after teleporting.

You can see how far the cache has loaded in the login screen at the bottom right corner. If you're already playing, you can use the 'displayfps' command in the developer's console (alt+² or alt+§ depending on the keyboard you have) and see if a lot of stuff is still being downloaded or not. If you're doing nothing with nobody around you it should be very low. The Winner of September 2019's MUPAQ™ Award is

The ONLY reason I dont use NXT and many players will agree is scaled chat. infact, there was a huge forum about this not too long ago. Please get scaled chat! it's a major hinder that people with eyesite issues.

Ex-Mod Edge told me a long while ago on a thread of mine in the Game Content Suggestion Forum (called Better Login Background) that interface scaling was something they were working on. I haven't heard anything since, so I have no idea if it got shelved or not. It would be logical for text scaling to be part of it.

In the meantime, you could use the scale function of Windows itself to make everything better. I set it to 150% on my 4k screen beause otherwise everything (not just the game) is too small to be comfortable.
How to get to this setting on Windows 10 (translated from Dutch so exact wording might differ):
- Go to settings
- Click the 'system' tile, it should be in the top-left corner
- If you're not on the first tab of the screen, click on 'screen' on the top of the list on the left-hand side, it usually already brings you here
- Under the title 'Scale and lay-out' (the third one after 'Color' and 'Windows HD Color', chance the size of text, apps and other items using the dropdown menu. It might even suggest one already based on your physical monitor specifications.
- If you go to the 'Advanced scale settings' by clicking the link-like thingy, you can let Windows optimize apps so they don't appear blurry too because of a different scale.
