Doing something 500 times isn't any more difficult then doing that same thing 50,000 times.

This whole game is a big grind though. If you don't value that style of gameplay, then you may be on the wrong game imo. Runescape at its core is about the big long grind. The journey to the end-game. That's why it's still alive today.

Why does a game like this do so well? Because of the grind. People grind their characters to get X thing and continue doing that through the entirety of their play time. They just replace one repetitive thing with another. This repeats until the player becomes so bored they no longer can be bothered. This can take a long time depending on how long their goals take to finish.

No one said it was challenging or even hard. Point is, on a game where time spent is valued the most, something that takes longer is perceived as better and thus "hard". When you achieve something (things like get X level or XP) that takes long, you get a sense of accomplishment. This used to happen back then when 99s took a shit load of time to get. But as 99s got faster to reach, that sense of accomplishment began dying. It's now at a point now where 99s just don't cut it for players any more. All the XP boosts can be blamed for this.

It's one of reasons why OSRS is vastly more popular than RS3 even though it's just one massive repetitive grind where everything takes significantly longer to get. People feel a lot more accomplished and satisfied. People don't need level 120 all skills because 99s are already ridiculously time-consuming.

You can enjoy this game without needing to grind but it wouldn't be popular if grinding wasn't a thing. Tons of people are just attracted to that style of gameplay. People that don't like it don't play. There's loads of other games that are likely better than this one that don't require such boring grinds.

Just to add:

Now that I am getting sick of the grind and no longer can be bothered like I used to many years ago, I'm finding the game really boring because honestly, without the grinding, the game is boring. There's not much that hooks me any more because most of it is just grinding for things I don't see value in.

Back then, I thought RS was the best game ever because I was so into the grind. I had tons to do. Tons to keep me occupied. It consumed my time. Now that's gone, it's no longer the same fun game I used to play.

I doubt I'm the only one that thinks this either. People that get sick of the grind and become "goalless" lose interest fast. In order to keep most people interested in a game like this, you need them constantly chasing goals, grinding for something they want. If they aren't doing that, chances are they aren't logging in and that's bad for the game. You need people logging in or else the game dies.

The game isnít just about the grind. The grind is their to unlock content and quests etc. The real challenge and fun comes after you unlock such content you are after.

It's what keeps people playing though, well most people anyways.

They grind for something, say a cape or a title, work at it and then once that's done, they move on to the next grind. Rinse and repeat until they no longer find a new grind to hook themselves on to. Once this happens, boredom usually sets in and they stop playing. This is either temporary or permanent. Some people find a short or long break helps them find new goals and this piques their interest in the game once more.

A game like this thrives because of its grinding nature. It's what sucks the majority of our time and this keeps Jagex happy as it ensures our continued custom. Jagex are always looking for ways to keep us playing and logging in daily.

DXP weekends, 120 skills, dailies and other grinding stuff are ways they go about doing that.

Even more interactive content like Telos and Elite Dungeons which people may find more fun has stuff you grind for - the whole point of most content is to keep people interacting with it and that means grinding for something. It lures you back with rewards to keep you engaging with it. It might be fun to kill the bosses themselves, but it's still a grind.

I think it's why people want a new official max. It increases the time it takes to reach end-game, which may be good for the game's health. If it takes longer to reach max levels, people play longer and if people play longer, it keeps Jagex in business. If people reach max levels too fast (99s are compared to many years ago), they get bored and quit. That's not good.

We may have great content for PvMers once they hit end-game, but for everyone else (i.e. skillers), it's really lacking. A new max might allow for better content to be released for people that aren't boss hunters.

Feel free to stalk my profile now, OP.

My Summoning level >>> my Slayer level (note that I still have roughly 8k charms left over).

If you can't get 120 naturally on the road to 120 Slay, get better at this game.

Reasons for why dxp is unfair:

There are those that keep missing on dxp. For me, I canít participate because Iíve got an extended shift this Saturday to make up for a four day holiday next week. And on Sunday a family meeting at dinner.

Well fuck, I could only participate in dxp last night for two hours after work because dxp started from 8 pm for me and I gotta go to bed at 10 pm for work today.

Even for those that have time to play, doesnít mean they have times that coincide with dxp does it?

End result: People miss out while others make loads of xp and think themselves gods after getting 120 in skills hard to train like summoning. Iíve never complained about missing out on dxp and wanting to make the game fair by removing dxp completely forever until visiting the 120 summoning threads on future game updates. Nor am I Ďjellyí about others progressing faster than me. But it broke the camelís back when those players felt dxp that stacks with their th bough bxp is the normal playing style that justifies the game getting easy and needing 120 in all skills.

I just read one reason, you announced more? And the reason is "I cannot participate". Quite literally. You just generalise that to other people.
Then it just takes you twice as long, you'll get there as well. As for me, I haven't played for nearly three years, so I missed six weekends. So what? Now I still got the journey ahead of me, you can't just not organise something because some people can't participate. There will always be people who can't.

Really, it sounds a little bitter... I know people who brag about xp and money can be really annoying, but those people exist everywhere, also outside of the game. They forgot that they too have walked a long road. But that also means they're in the 'end game', and that just has an effect on the amount of xp you can get and money you can earn. For them, it is indeed cheap, while for you, it may not
