Augment New Metal Items?

Am I missing something, or is there currently no way to augment items made from the new metals? Every time I try it says I can't work out how to augment it.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a colossal oversight on the part of Jagex? If the latter, when can we expect a fix?

There is no point to high tier degradeable items that cannot be augmented...

This is on purpose. Since these items are significantly easier to obtain than the previous items in these tiers, they were made non-augmentable. This ensures old lv 70-90 gear retains some value because it can accept invention perks. At the same time, the new gear offers a cheaper alternative for players who aren't looking for optimal stats. Well, I guess I will not be training invention anymore... what kind of shit is this?

Really wanted to switch out my t78 sunspear for a t85 rune 2h, but I guess I will be doing so at the cost of invention xp. Thanks, Jagex. Brilliant update.

And I actually thought they had done a fair job of it until now...

The solution you wanted would have crashed the value of every single pvm drop between levels 60 and 90. I'm not sure you understand the weight of that request.

You're kidding. The new gear is already 5 levels behind the equivalent PvM drops. The rune armor has the same defensive values as ports armor, but no prayer bonus. It was already obsolete. The weapon is only worthwhile to me because I have no better option for 2h melee available to me, which means it was utterly worthless to almost every other player. No pay2win, no easyscape

Ahhh. I see. You're committing the mistake of thinking every single item coming in this rework was for you. For some players with lower stats and less gold, these items are welcome upgrades. For higher end players who have money, we got the Masterwork set. For players in the middle, a few diverse options were added.

Not everything will appeal to you. Literally only the Masterwork armor is relevant to me but you don't see me complaining that the Necronium gear doesn't have enough stats.

I suppose there is still masterwork to look forward to - but it doesn't solve the problem of invention XP.

I guess I am stuck with ranged for that - nothing better then my Augmented Zaryte Bow is available yet, and tons of tasks allow ranged, but I prefer melee, and invention was already slow enough earning it with every combat style.

Oh well, screw me again I guess. This can be moved to Rants or closed now - I assumed this was a legitimate, if baffling, oversight, not an intentional screw you to the only players who might actually have wanted to use the items produced by the update.

The new training methods are still nice, but I suppose it was too much to ask to have the items produced by them to have any value...

step 1: buy scythe
step2: augment scythe
step3: buy a bunch of aggression flasks and siphons
step 4: afk at abyssal demons

you now have 200m invention xp

Did you miss the part where a tier 85 weapon is the best 2h melee available to me?


My account is far too old to have been created as an ironman, but that's still my preferred playstyle, so I play as much that way as I can. Since I cannot kill Araxxor, I cannot get a Noxious Scythe with my playstyle.


Yes, I am well aware that this is a self-imposed restriction - all the more reason I'm disappointed to learn that this update isn't as beneficial to me as I originally expected. I assumed adding new tiers of self-made combat gear was done with the intention of providing better alternatives to players who have to earn all their own items.
