why should I be expected to assume one day they will just jump to level 120

Because it's a game that updates and can change direction at any time. This includes things like upping the max skill levels. If it's desired enough by the community, it'll eventually happen. You should always be ready for it. There is always going to be a risk of something getting released that you just won't like. That's just how it is and if you hate the idea of that, do not play a game that allows itself to update and make changes. You're better off playing a game that doesn't update as there's no risk of anything changing.

You're free to rally against any proposed idea and express your concerns, but even then you should still be preparing for it in the back of your mind just in case it does happen. Accept the possibility it may happen.

I see 120s as an an inevitability. It's not a matter of if, it's just a matter of when. There's already a slow, gradual climb to push skills to level 120. So far Dungeoneering, Invention and Slayer have been bold enough to make that leap. Other skills will follow when the time is right.

Players are becoming bored quickly because hitting end-game levels (currently 99 for a ton of skills) is too fast. It's much faster than before and many players have been here since childhood when the game was a lot more grindy and 99s actually took a significant amount of time to reach. This is what's leading to the push towards a new official max. It shouldn't really be surprising.

f people are bored and quitting with the levels at 99 max what do you think having to do them to 120 will do

It will give them something more to do. Some people like skilling but need a reason to keep skilling. If skills raise to level 120, it means more content will come out past 99 to fill the gaps between 99 and 120. If done right, it can keep them busy for longer. And keeping players busy for longer is healthier for the game.

This game has always been about grinding and doing repetitive stuff over and over again until you complete a goal. OSRS is attractive for that reason and look at how much more popular it is compared to the main game. It's the game for grinders. When RS3 began losing that (by making skills too fast), it started losing players and was seen as the lesser game (commonly referred to as easyscape).

People won't specifically say they're quitting because levels go to level 99. They'll likely say they're bored and have nothing else to do. Why are they bored? Because they reached the maximum level in a skill (99 for most) too quickly and don't see a reason to continue going forward.

Time and energy should be put into what the players want. If people decide they want skills to move to 120, then that should happen. If they don't, then yeah put time and energy into something people do want. We can't gauge that from a forum that only draws a couple hundred people though. This can only be determined with an unbiased poll that doesn't show any results until it's done.
