It will create a seperate copy of your save file: your current progress will transfer, but any progress you make on the beta won't transfer back.

Unfortunately you can only be logged in with a set of credentials once; you can't be playing RS3 or OSRS at the same time as the beta with the same account.

The previous beta was F2P, so the workaround was simply to make a new account for the purposes of trying the beta. That won't work this time since the new beta is members only, so any time you're spending trying the beta is time you're not progressing that account or preparing for DXP - unless you create a temporary account and throw a bond on it, you can't do the beta in the background while still working on your main.

That's a huge deal, and will cripple the amount of testing of the beta which will actually happen.

Methinks "cripple" is a rather strong word here. Yeah it will diminish testing a bit, but it is far better than a "first come first serve" approach with limited testers. Looking at you, Mobile.

We'll have 2 weeks to test, and there is always downtime that can be used to play around with the beta. Not to mention, many players are STARVING for this update, they want it, and want it done right.
Why RS Mobile is a stupid idea

The problem is, DXP is a big deal, and the membership requirement is insurmountable.

Had the beta been on a F2P server (which there's no reason why it technically couldn't be, except for the fact that member-content is available which couldn't even be fed-back into any player's main account in any way) there would be a ton more players participating:

- F2P players, who currently can't test the beta no matter how much they would like to
- P2P players who are mostly engulfed by the "XP waste" mentality, and DXP round the corner exaggerating that aspect to an absormally high level.

To put it bluntly, most P2P players have one P2P account. Yes, it's not uncommon for players to have P2P alts, though those alts usually have specific purposes.

Due to the P2P nature of the game, people have the basic need to milk the most value - usually in the form of progress or wealth - out of every moment they have membership. This is a core reason why P2P players are efficiency focussed, while F2P are mostly more laid back.

While you're logged-in to the beta server, you *cannot* also be logged-in as that same character in the regular servers. That means your regular account cannot progress. The more time you spend on the beta, the more XP and GP you're earning which will just be wasted and deleted once the beta ends, and the more XP and GP you could have earned permanently on your main account which you didn't.

So I'd be very surprised if more than about 5% of members spent more than 5 minutes on the beta, which is not enough by any stretch.

I intend to spend considerably more than 5 minutes exploring the beta and its implications, bonus XP weekend or no. If that puts me in a 5% minority then so be it.
