The idea for the bosses requires that the individual in question has 99 in the relevant skill. After 50 boss kills an Expert Skilling Token will be received for the skill which can be used to upgrade skill sets by 5% extra xp and add Expert at the start of all the piece items. No appearance changes needed.

A boss example and their useful rewards:

99 Fishing - In a secluded lake area guarded by a fisherman. The player will stand on the edge of a peak coming face to face with the legendary Fisher King. The greatest fish in the sea. Its fins make a waving motion preventing it from being caught by normal means. Blowing away all forms of tools used against it. Multiple options become available to the player including Harpoon strike option which damages the boss. The king will regularly whisper a fish name. The player must locate the fish based on looks alone and use the EXACT tool used to catch that specific fish. Then release it as the Fisher King gives chase. As it gives chase its guard will be down. Harpoon Strike it to deal damage. It will stop and immediately move its fins again. The reason why it is legendary is because it has its defense making it impossible to just catch. With each phase it will not stop moving its fins until its eaten that last fish. Phase 1: 1 Fish. Phase 2: 2 Fish. Phase 3: 3 Fish.

Items obtained Fishing Boss: Expert Rod level 80; 20% chance. Master Rod level 85; 5% chance. Legendary Rod level 90; 1% chance with extra bonus. Legendary rod also has a 50% chance of catching an extra fish.

There's not enough space for all the bosses details sadly. I have ideas for Fishing, Woodcutting, Mining and Agility so far.

More details down below maybe.

99 Woodcutting - In a hidden forest lies the old ancient tree of Gilanor. Near it's bottom are four visible large roots, all healthy. A text bar will pop up mentioning which one of the roots is dying. Cut the right root to break it. Cutting a healthy root will do nothing to the tree. The tree will use two arms to throw the player across the arena and spawn a forest blocking their path. The player must find the dying trees in the forest making their way back to the roots. Phase 1: No forest; Just break the roots. Phase 2: A forest will spawn; Break the dying trees to get through. Phase 3: Same as phase two, but some paths now have roots that will throw you back to the start.

Items Obtained: Expert Axe level 80; 20% chance. Master Axe level 85; 5% chance. Legendary Axe level 90; 1% chance with extra bonus. Allows players to rejuvenate a cut down tree stomp back into a tree. That individual tree can only have it done once per minute.

99 Agility - An arena with lots of large trees hanging over a large net below. An acrobat monkey will jump around the trees quickly and smash the trees over time. Also kicking the player in mid air. The player has to jump around the trees to avoid its slams and kick its back in mid air to send it flying into a tree hurting it. The player will land on another tree safely using the monkey as wall jump. The monkey will then grab onto the broken tree and jump back to a fixed one. Phase 1: Will smash a tree every few seconds away from player. Phase 2: Will smash trees more often and will start doing flips from tree to tree preventing the player from kicking it in the air. Must wait for when it doesn't flip. Phase 3: Same as 2, but will stay close to the player. When it jumps the side its front is facing is the side of the arena you do not want to kick it on. The other side behind it is were you can kick it.

Items Obtained: Expert Agility Ring; 20% chance. Gives 20% extra run and speed on Agility Courses. Master Agility Ring; 5% chance. 40% run and speed. Legendary Agility Ring; 1% chance. Gives 5 minutes of unlimited run with an hour waiting time after. Also gives 50% increase speed to Agility Courses.

I'm confused by this, so you have to be max level to fight the boss, but you can get rewards for levels lower than max...?
I don't see the point in making max level a requirement anyway, I think just making certain rewards only available past a certain level is a much better idea.
I can't really see skilling bosses being a reason why you'd want to hit 99 in a skill and I can't see them being that exciting more than once or twice once you've hit 99 in a skill.

I think just trying to find the exact fish is fine. Trying to find the exact tool too just seems to be needlessly adding layers, unless you just mean you need to use the right fishing technique, in which case that's fine, but I don't think you should have to run around trying to find extra stuff to get something that you already need to get to even fight the boss.

Anyway, I do like your reward ideas, especially if things like the rod and axe can go on the toolbelt.
Considering that most high-level combat drops come from bossing it makes sense that high-level skilling items should come from bossing too.
There should probably also be a level appropriate amount of resources too e.g with the woodcutting boss some Yew logs from 60-74, Magic logs from 75-89 then Elder logs at 90+.
Along with a few other rare items.

I've had a few ideas for some skilling bosses too and I've been wanting to try and add them to a thread, so let me know if that's ok with you.

You do bring up very good points. Always helpful to have another pair of eyes. You're free to post boss ideas here. For the Fishing boss, techniques in a sense of using the action bar. (The 1,2,3,4 thing) does sound like a good idea. Also max level is fairly high yes, but the bosses have to be supported by a level of which is worthy of the reward item. So a minimum of 80 with 85 and 90 available when reached. You are correct about combat bosses dropping combat gear. So the skilling bosses have to live up to it in their name also. I suppose the higher level you have in woodcutting the easier you can make it through the forest as there will be more trees you are able to cut. Its all still a work in progress after all.

Surely a good reward for a skilling boss would be a larger supply of resources the skill produces than you'd normally get through safe/afk means in the same amount of time, with a small chance at the unique drops on to of that?

Ex: Rocktail Fishing Boss. Takes 2-3 minutes to beat minimum. Upon victory, player receives 6-9 minutes worth of raw rocktails and a chance for one of your suggested rods to drop (albeit at a lower rate than you suggested to account for increased regular profitability).

That way you make a profit incentive for doing the active skill boss over the inactive regular methods that goes beyond a rare chance at a unique.

Runecrafting boss:
Esslosus or Colessus
A new creature has appeared in the Runespan and it's up to you (your friends) and some wizards from the tower to deal with it.
First, the wizards hand you some runes and some essence tanks (which can hold essence energy without turning it into runes) and then they tell you how to deal with the boss.
Phase 1 You need to climb up the boss and chip away at its joints and body parts to uncover essence trapped inside.
Phase 2 and 3 You need to siphon the essence into the essence tanks and then siphon the essence out of the tanks and into the correct joint or body part e.g. mind essence into the head, body essence into the torso etc.
Throughout the fight, the boss will be trying to stop you, at first it will just be by occasionally trying to shake you off, however, once you've chipped away at a joint or body part to uncover the essence underneath they will occasionally start firing essence blasts at you, which can do damage if you don't siphon the essence into a rune before it hits you, doing this is also required to have enough runes to chip away all of the parts as the wizards won't actually give you enough runes at the start.

Rewards: There's already a ton of Runecrafting based gear, but considering that off hand skilling items were revealed at Runefest I think adding a main hand skilling item for runecrafting would make sense.
It could be called the Wicked wand there'd be a small chance to obtain it originally and then at certain skill levels you gain the chance to have it upgraded after you beat the boss.
You'd also get a large amount of runes and maybe rune essence depending on your level.
And you'd get some Runespan points for beating the fight.
You might even be able to get talismans and teleport tablets/wicked hood charges.

Firemaking boss:

Idea 1:
Vampyre battle, although the Myreque have been mostly disbanded there have been reports of another blisterwood tree in a secret cave that was discovered by a group of people taking up the Myreque cause and name, although a vampyre was recently seen headed towards there and no one has seen any of them since you need to find out if those reports are true.
Upon entering the cave you notice the corpses of the group and a pile of blisterwood logs in the corner of the room, suddenly a vampyre drops down from the ceiling and says "The hunt shall begin!" and then uses an attack similar to the one used by Vanstrom to cause the whole room to become pitch black, the vampyre bites you and you take a small amount of damage and then the room goes back to its normal light level.
Now you need to run over to the pile of blisterwood logs and use them to start a fire, which will give you some space that you can see in when the Vampyre uses its darkness attack.
Once the Vampyre uses its darkness attack it will try to move across the cave and bite you, however, if you have a fire going you will be able to pick up a burning blisterwood log from the fire to arm yourself with and attack it when you see it coming.

Idea 2:
You enter a clearing with a giant fire spirit, there are some trees or logs around along with firelighters of various colours, the fire spirit will give some indication of the kind of logs you need to light and what colour the fire should be and maybe how many fires you need to light.
If you get it right enough times then you win, if you get it wrong then the fire spirit will be frustrated and release a burst of flames that deal damage to you.

Rewards:
Lv 80, 85 and 90 tinder box. (And maybe lower levels)
Simmilar loot as given by firespirits and/or Columbarium keys and Pyre logs?
