I’m getting exasperated with particularly non constructive, harassing posts that just attack threads without a valid argument. What I mean are baseless attacks on threads whose only relevancy is just mentioning the topic of concern to skirt the rules and avoid forum moderation.

Worse still, these posts usually try to make it to the first post of most people’s threads where they serve no purpose other than to side track the thread from the get go. Not only that, the ones who continue meaningless arguments often have no argument, take no sides or take both sides of a debate either on one thread or multiple threads with similar concerns, let alone provide evidence or proof of their claims because they don’t even have a topic sentence to start with.

Simply having an ignore list of forum users isn’t going to be too effective, since others who haven’t ignored will be baited while the ignore list users will be clueless as to how the argument originated.

Can we please, therefore, make threads that are entirely invisible to forum users we do not wish to read unless they are a forum or Jagex moderator? Posts made on other people’s threads cannot be hidden to specific players by the posters themselves, but please allow threads to be hidden to specific players instead. This function can only be used upon thread creation, not after it has been created. This will reduce unwanted arguments and clutter so proper discussion or arguments can proceed unhindered.

I would rather have an ignore function that obscures certain individuals' posts while you are logged in.

This sounds too difficult and complicated to implement.

This will create isolated 'echo chamber' communities here in RSOF. Thread responses restricted only to the 'yes men/women', opposing opinions are banned.

You want only the responses you wish to hear? Am I wrong with my understanding of what you want to happen?

I'm happy it's a free forum, everyone should be allowed to post, if you feel you're being personally attacked or baited forum help is there for you. Favouritismbtw - Love and light doesn't fix everything, neither does being blind to problems - Favouritismbtw.

So TL;DR "I don't like someone's opinion, therefore I'm gonna be a bully and not allow them to take part in my discussion"? That kind of attitude is terrible, it just fuels one's intolerance against opposing opinions and in turn discourages them to have an open mind. The point of an open forum like this is that everyone can participate, regardless of their opinion and stance on various things.

If someone is actually breaking the rules, then obviously you should report them, but if it's just about harmless arguments, you can choose yourself whether or not to participate in them. Arguments, even extra drawn out ones, are still a part of what a forum like RSOF is supposed to be. You might find some of them meaningless, but some others don't, so you can just let it resolve by itself among those who do want to keep arguing.

One of the biggest long term problems on the forums IMO has been that too many people lack the ability to take criticism; if someone so much as dares to not support their "perfect" idea (as becomes apparent of their behavior should someone not support), they're a troll for doing so. Thankfully, it seems not to be as prevalent of a problem currently as it used to be, but if a feature like this was implemented, it'd definitely get worse when they could start blocking criticism in their future threads.

So yeah, no support.

Hi Aria Ventus!

I understand your frustration with users derailing and sidetracking threads, but I think the change you're proposing would be a herculean undertaking for the forums, and I'm not even sure that something like that is possible. Not only that, but I think it would serve to further divide the fanbase - all reasonable discussion should be permitted on the forum, by any user.

However, if there are specific instances of users derailing threads or being hostile, vulgar, or unreasonable, please always report them on the Forum Help thread, and either the FMods or CM Neriphyra and I will gladly help with whatever you need.

We're here to ensure the forums are a friendly and helpful place for everyone, so please let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Agreed.

No support.

The forums are open to everyone as long as they're within the rules.

Exactly.

Love how ppl say the forums are dead yet continually ask for this and ignore ability.

Double standards at its finest.
