Derogatory words, the use of them within RSOF.

I have started a thread on this matter to stop derailing another. I feel all derogatory words should be removed from RSOF, no matter how minor you may feel they are. One person may find it okay, while another not at all. It maybe the country you were brought up in certain derogatory words are quite fine, when another country those same words are frowned upon and not acceptable. For this reason all derogatory words should be removed.

Derogatory means: showing a critical or disrespectful attitude.

Silly is in fact a derogatory word it's meaning stupid, absurd, or foolish.

Stupid means: having or showing a great lack of intelligence or common sense.

Retard: slang. stupid or foolish.

Silly, stupid and retard are the main derogatory words we see within RSOF, and as you can see by the meaning they are all just as bad as the next - equally derogatory. They are harmful words and should not be tolerated within these forums.

Why do people need to post derogatory words?
- to be funny?
- to be cool?
- hateful feeling towards another?

This thread is not about censorship, banning words or using words to describe items such as pictures or jokes - this thread is purely about your views on putting a fellow forumer down (a person) using derogatory words towards a person within a post. Above are some words I often come across. There are other posts that may seem quite innocent to the on looker, but may have hidden meaning, not derogatory but still just as harmful or hurtful. There are people that will use other forms of the written language to cause rife, to go under the radar of detection, you may also discuss this.

When I use the word remove it means to have the post hidden or the derogatory word removed from the post by a moderator.

Please stay on topic, no flaming, no baiting, trolling or spamming, keep to the topic not the person. If you find the subject not to your taste don't post. Please abide by Jagex rules.

Tbh, if I want to put someone down, I can do it intelligently without using derogatory words.

What is flaming to you may not be flaming to others. Hell, the person whose post seems offensive to you may not ever meant to offend you in the first place.

Remember that disagreement does not equal flaming. Pointing out the idiotic in one's post is not offensive either. When you use the RSOF which is a public forum, you should expect many different opinions. Some you like, some you may not like.

People come from different backgrounds and they will criticize your posts nicely or strongly.

No support, removing words that you don't like would be censorship. People would also then start finding alternatives, e.g. $illy, s_tupid etc. It'd just be unnecessary burden to the forums, because if a post is breaking the rules, you can already report it to forum help (and report fmod actions/lack of to FMR). The current situation is fine IMO. > ) The Runescape Witcher

Question for OP:
Is calling someone 'immature', either directly or by obvious implication, derogatory?

Also, I am quite curious the ratio of people who agree / disagree with your suggestion.

My suggestion is not nothing new, it's already happening to a degree. What I would like is for all derogatory posts to be removed or hidden by a moderator. To become stricter on certain type words. As I find it extremely erratic a lot of the time.

Is 'immature' derogatory? Or are we not allowed to know your definition of derogatory?

Clearly, the FMods have their own ideas / guidelines, which they use to moderate.
They are hardly going to consider your suggestion if you refuse to be clear about what you consider derogatory.

Personally, I'm inclined to let the FMods decide, certainly on whats derogatory or not.
I'm pretty sure they have guidelines set out by Jagex.

I have given examples if you read the opening post.

Please use the dictionary if you have trouble on what words my or my not be derogatory.
