Hello,

I was an avid forums user from 2006-2008 when a mass amount of clans moved to off-site forums. I was around for what I consider the peak of the RSB, so seeing how things are now it pains me.

I look through the topics posted, and I see a majority aren't so much constructive as they are rants.

I'm hoping to change that with this post, I want to keep all side discussions such as blame game, he said she said etc off of this post, and focus on ways we can make these forums better.

With that being said I present Forums Rejuvenation 1.0.

1. Restructuring the current format/layout of the forums- The forums are kind of convoluted and hard to navigate currently, I think it would serve to restructure the current layout and navigation methods of them. We can keep with the theme of dividing the content, but maybe having a section for OSRS and RS3 on two separate pages would benefit having to sift through content that the user might find not necessary.

2. Method of making topics "pretty"- I think aesthetically the forums are decent, but it might bring more users if you allow people to "pretty" their topics up. I see you can now post pictures, which is great but I think embedding video from say youtube would help aspect such as clans posting events (to be discussed in later points), or people posting guides for in-game content.

3. Ingame Events Section- I think it would be an interesting addition to have a section for users to post public events in a section so that they can reach the community. Could do an events section with a PvP and PvM/PvE subsections. Maybe you could even do a Jagex official event section.

4. Clan Sections- Coming from the clan world, this is where it all began for me, so I have a warm place in my heart for RSB and clanning. I think that clanning should have a subsection for Clan Recruitment, Clan Discussion, Clan Ladder (either an official Jagex ladder, or RSB Ladder), and Clan Event Recaps. I will discuss this further in my next post.

Bringing Clans back to the RSB could do wonders for the RSB. With that we need to ask ourselves why clans left in the first place.

Clans, in particular, found that the RSB didn't quite have the tools they needed for recruiting new members, as well as keeping old members interested. This might have to do with the tools available at the time forums wise, as well as a ton of other issues. With fan sites such as zybez being notorious for IP leaks, mod bias, and overall abuse of members I think this is the perfect time to open the RSB back up to clans (not that it was closed to them of course)

But with that being said I think one thing Jagex could do to bring clans back is to give them certain tools to make it viable.

A way to recap events including pictures and youtube videos would be a great feature.

An official RSB Ladder (there have been numerous unofficial) with Jagex backing could also help with giving the RSB leverage in bringing clans back.

1. What sifting. It's scrolling down. RS3 and Old School do have separate forums they even have separate market places. No sifting involved.
Also the whole reason they aren't as pretty as one would like is it takes developer time to restructure the forums. Unfortunately we're a lower priority than what they're working on. So when they get free time is typically when we see shiny baubles.

2. So we can now make them look pretty, have font enhancements and a plethora of colors to make our fonts now. The whole reason we can't embed full video's is that would take up alot of server storage space to house all the video's that would not be needed but people would post regardless. However you can post safe youtube links here now as well.

3. Events and Competitions (click me) Need I say more than it already exists.

4. Each clan has had their own forums for quite awhile now. If you go to the top of the page, the community pull down tab, clans, and click the forums button on the clans page you're whisked off to that clans forum. Where you can post all the stuff for your clan.

As you've said you've been gone for a long while there have been a ton of changes in your absence already.

1. I'm not sure if it is my browser, but every time I'm logged out, I have to re "minimize" the categories I don't like to see.

2. The listed features are a good addition to what we used to have, but in all honesty, it still lacks elements that most sub-tier fan sites have. The server storage issue is an invalid point as if it is hosted on youtube it uses their resources (similar to the images being embedded). In general, it would be a similar feature to embedding an image (a feature that we have somewhat).

3. Fairly put, I haven't noticed that section before now. It could do with a subsection for official Jagex events, and community hosted events. Jagex could even spotlight certain community events.

4. The clans section is pretty outdated again as far as features go. The oldschool section, for instance, jumbles all clan items into one subsection. I also see you grabbed one of my points from the above but didn't address the others. Do you care to comment on the others?

You can post on the current calendar thread to have your events added to the official calendar. These sit alongside JMod and PMod events.

Am hoping to get the calendar thread updated so keep an eye out :)
