I don't feel it's being used enough or for the right reasons.

There are people using the forums for negative posts towards others and it's just relentless at times. Anywhere a remark can be made it will be made. It's both members and f2p. They have never been disciplined through the ban procedure even though it's continuous negative behavour. I feel their negative posting doesn't stop because they aren't going to miss out on anything, they are not getting banned for there continuous negative posts.

The moderators pretty much keep on top of it by hiding the posts dependent on who's moderating at the time, if any moderators are on, if it's reported or if they feel it should be hidden (it all should be hidden in my eyes), any negative posts should not be tolerated. But this form of moderation is not getting through to some people, the negative posts still come regularly, I feel it need to go up to the next step, which is temp ban and if they still haven't learned further down the track perm ban.

These forums can be a really pleasant place and it should be for all that use it, it shouldn't matter if you don't agree, don't like the post or person. If it was moderated correctly, you would get rid of a lot of the negative posts, as I am sure no one wants to be perm ban.

I notice that fmods are never forum banned

I beg to differ. I was banned at 1 time in 2005. Some glitch got me lol.

Also on the topic of Forum Bans I'm not sure about them. Meaning the Rules are so relaxed now It's hard to get banned. Not saying It's impossible just saying It's a lot harder these days.

One time on these forums you couldn't say "Google or Microsoft" without a ban and now Jagex allow links. Jagex also listen to the Community and relaxed the rules 10 fold. Todays rules are far better for everyone. Yes you may get the odd troll here and there and yes if reported to Forum Help they may have posts removed. But it does not end there. If they troll and disrupt the Community they are sent for Review. The F-Mods still mute people. This week alone I've muted 4 maybe 5 people due to severe rule breaking. Mutes still happen but on a lesser scale then they did say 10 years ago.

I will say this though I like less mutes. It gives the Community more freedom. It makes the forum a much better place to chill out. I personally didn't like muting people for the odd troll post or spam post. Todays rules in my own personal opinion are just right to keep the Community running sweet.

Remember though if you do spot anything wrong then please report it. The F-Mods can then make the call and deal with it. Remember some reports will go direct to Jagex. ;)

The guidelines where we operate is standing on the platform which can only be described in one-word: "leniency". That was what the Website & Forum folks loudly demanded, and Jagex complied with that appeal.

Whether you like it or not, if a forumer will not cause earth to shatter, we will try to give that person the benefit of the doubt. It takes a lot of hoops to jump to ban a forumer nowadays, no fmod wants to do that dance at all, let alone do it often, it is very inconvenient.

If a simple 1-time hide or a thread lock will do the trick of keeping these boards in proper order, we will do that instead of handing-out forum bans. To make it clear, Dong U Dead, if someone hates you here in RSOF, that is not enough justification to apply a ban.

Don't make it personal Louiellen.

I am specifically talking about all the negative posts, that are constantly getting hidden, so the negativity carries on as there is no reason to stop.

These forums could be an amazing place to be, but a handful of players enjoy the pleasure of hurting others.

@Tuffty: I like the relaxed style of the forums too and I am not asking for that to change. What I would like is for the negative post to stop - negative posts does not mean a relaxed forum. Having negative posts is the opposite to relax.

If moderators were able to give a firm stance that negativity is not welcome on these forums - you will soon find these type posts will become less. Yes, some will go on alt's, but I don't believe many would.

The reality is being 'negative' in itself is not a violation of the rules.

There is no rules in this board that says we can only post happiness-only threads.

The contents of your OP is not new, I've heard you said this many times in the past, it's like a broken record really. RSOF host many threads of various aspects of Runescape and even Off Topic threads are hosted in Off Topic section. Negative expressions and venting threads are all there in the Rants forum for everyone who likes to explore those types of threads.

This is a shared space, unless a forumer is causing a lot of trouble, a simple post lock or thread hide should suffice: people will then move-on to other threads, other topics.
