This is a thread to discuss the possibility of a new future in Runescape's future, or in better words, Jagex's future.
I would like to open a discussion about the possibilities of moving towards the blockchain technology.
It may sound like a hard task but I'm very sure there would be a lot of pros and cons when it comes to using the blockchain technology or something similar.
It may sound horrible for this idea but real world trading could possibly be the model of business in this technology.
Where you can buy a coin in real life called "RSGPcoin" and trade for in game items.
Sure there will be a huge gap in the difference between real world "RSGPcoin" and in game RSGP, thus the discussion about the possibility in this forum.

There's definitely more thinking and work need to be done before using the blockchain technology in Jagex.
I'm not a certified expert but I have a vast understanding on how the business in blockchain works. This can be a hidden topic or a closed one, but I would like to get this idea out for the staffs of Jagex to ponder upon.
In this technological world, those who want to stay on top has to adapt to changes in a fast and efficient way.

Not entirely sure how blockchain could be applied in a computer game, except in the example you give which pretty much sounds simply like sanctioned gold buying, from Jagex ?

Too early, until regulations are set - stay out of cryptocurrency.

Today, cryptocurrency are usually used for money laundering and funding criminal activities.

Sooo....all I got out of this was something about some kind of RS-styled bitcoin thing that leads to sanctioned real world trading by Jagex. And I'm not even sure if I understood that correctly to begin with.

Can't say I'm liking this idea so far. Unless you care to explain what the hell you can use blockchain for besides that sort of stuff.

Put simply, block-chain tech is useful because they are - at best - very difficult to forge or tamper with.
So university degrees or passports would be a good use of block-chain tech.
Not that this relates much to this thread, but you did ask!

With regard to the OPs idea, frankly there is so little in the way of detail that it doesnt admit of any discussion.
That said, I agree that block-chain tech could have all sorts of uses, just not sure what OP is driving at.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes more sense than what the OP talked about :)

It doesn't have to be the gp per se. Could be used for maybe buying 1m wood bypassing ge's limit with cryptocurrency. In this way, Jagex could earn a small fee for finding buyers for sellers, etc.

My apologies, Mad Hatter for not giving a detailed explaination.
Thank you One-Eyed for helping explaining it even further.
To add to that explaination, Jagex can use the blockchain technology to place an AI that can find an AI in game with data that they may have compiled. Making a master account for users to maybe have 2-3 alts fixed to one passport so that botfarms can be eliminated easily.
Just like how blockchains can trace transactions from as early as when they were first mined, by using the tech, Jagex can narrow down suspicious trades etc.
