I have just discovered there is a title called 'the Wikian' which can only be granted to others by members of the runescape.wiki website.

a long time ago there was another wiki hosted on runescape.com and branded the "official" wiki. it received very little support from jagex and was primarily contributed by players with only 1 real staff member on duty (mod michelle).

the day mod michelle left the company they shut down this official wiki. so all the hard work everyone did to bring the official wiki up to speed as a reliable source of information wasted their efforts and jagex themselves promoted the other wiki instead.

I thought this was not very nice, a lot of people devoted hours of their time to help jagex with little support from the company itself. do you think they should also get 'the Wikian' title? it sounds like jagex just forgot about all these people, some with thousands of contributions and even more than the ones on the runescape.wiki site who have gained the title. or maybe even "the Official Wikian"?

I would also like to point out some members of the other wiki actually discouraged people on the official wiki, coming over and starting rude discussions about copyright. so the people who edited the official wiki were not very welcome on the other wiki, and basically disadvantaged to even getting the title in the first place.

just wanted to bring attention to this and preferably get a staff response. it sounds like these guys got thrown under the bus and instead the other wiki is getting rewarded. it would be nice if jagex could grant them the title as well in my opinion, they did a lot of hard work that went unnoticed and continues to go unnoticed because jagex pulled the plug on the official wiki. back then editing the official wiki was seen as pointless because the other wiki existed, and it just saddens me that to this day jagex has failed to recognize these people who helped out in their experiment that they stopped supporting themselves

I would be ok with them removing it but I doubt they will, so I think those who were wikians should be appropriately rewarded

quite frankly seeing the same people who talked so poorly about the official wiki now having the ability to give 'the Wikian' title is just a slap in the face if you ask me

You are actually suggesting real-life corruption and bribery here.
There is no evidence whatsoever for this outrageous claim.

Removed a few posts. Can't accuse people of wrong doings without posting proof.

I left Archaeox reply as it was a reply that was worth leaving.

not sure where this was suggested, but i have evidence for all the claims i've made here

if they dedicated the time to make a title and an item I think they should also allocate time to just pull up the old data. I doubt they really permanently deleted a giant wiki and probably have it shelved away somewhere just for the sake of record keeping. bring back the lumbridge pig pit

In the more than two years since the 'Wikian' title was introduced, I haven't seen a single complaint from anyone involved in the original RS Wiki about this alleged 'problem'.

Which suggests to me that this is all faux outrage about a non-issue.

1. barely anyone knows it exists
2. I was involved in the original RS Wiki

your post suggest just another pointless attempt at disparaging my threads, get a hobby

i'm still not sure why this thread was moved to w&f when it involves an in-game title and the runescape.wiki is an external site that jagex only provides hosting for. would like to keep this discussion going but also feel the current placement is wrong since this section relates to aspects of the website not in-game titles. bring back the lumbridge pig pit

Hi there,

I have investigated this for you - and we do not hold any information on file about who contributed to the wiki.

I am sorry that you feel like you have missed out, however I would suggest you try and contact the book owner and justify why you feel you deserve it - they maybe kind enough to grant it you; however I cannot speak for them. Or, nominate yourself here.

Otherwise, why not contribute to the wiki as it is officially supported by us? :)

Good luck, and I give permission for this thread to be locked up next week by the FMod team - happy to leave it open over the weekend for discussion.

Cheers,

Mod Meadows.

I think a lot of the people who contributed to the old wiki are dual contributors actually

a lot of people though, myself included, just don't have that free time available anymore. it's kind of unfortunate that devoting your time toward a jagex sponsored resource at the time (with very little resources) really has nothing to show for it, whereas if you invested time in other wiki you would have something to show. to me it should be either all or nothing.

also, a lot of the wikia leadership were unfriendly toward the other wiki; I doubt they would share anything to what they considered a competitor, or just tell you to contribute on theirs as a new contributor all the same. especially if you are saying you have no way to verify the contributions.

disappointed there are no records. I find it difficult to believe the wiki isn't on file somewhere collecting dust.

unfortunate the lack of communication about the wiki. after mod michelle left the company it shut down the next day. and now rewards are given out for the other wiki but no recognition at all for jagex's.

I think to make the situation right the top contributor on the old wiki should be given a title-granting book as well. it shouldn't be hard to verify that individual at least.

sorry for late response
