For a long time, Jagex has admitted that the forums are 'not a priority' in terms of development or updates. For an equally long time, players have been claiming that declining forum use is at least in part because Jagex's own staff don['t bother to use the official forums on RuneScape's own website.

I'd like to congratulate Mod Ramen on finally confirming what the playerbase already knew: that Jagex staff would actually PREFER that players sign up to 3rd party websites in order to give feedback.

Original message details are unavailable.
If you have any feedback, I have a lovely reddit thread you're able to leave comments on. If you don't want to leave a comment as it's on reddit. Leaving it here will be fine :)

Out of interest, how much does Reddit pay Jagex to promote its service in this way?

If Reddit are not paying for promotion, then this merely proves something else: that Jagex staff are putting their own convenience above that of their customers, which is an attitude shift that is never good for any business.

Forwards into the death spiral!
I suppose if we're going nowhere, we might as well go as fast as we can.

I found it rather curious that, so cursory was the post in question, that he didn't even provide a link.

On the plus side, I found an amusing sub-reddit of lolcats.

I wasn't part of the forums in the early days so I'm not sure how busy it was, when I came general forums the threads would only last Few weeks or slightly more before it met there sticky end. I'm pretty sure the forums were roughly averaging 30 logged in, slightly quieter in the evenings (London day time) averaging around 20.

I don't use reddit, haven't been there for several months or more - not my cuppa tea. Anyway they Reddit average 2k people in the evenings - Jagex have gone to where the people are.

I'm not sure if Jagex coming to the forums would produce much more traffic than what it is now. It would be pretty much be what it was in the past if they did come, even if the forums were top class with all the niceties to go with it. The only time it fulls up is if there's a promotion, update or dislike and even then it would not produce the numbers seen in Reddit.

What I do feel though the forums should be first port of call for any information. I also feel Jagex should take time in the forums as they use to do when I first came. It was such a thrill for me to find a post and/or picture in one of my Off Topic threads.

And even though these forums are quiet, I feel Jagex should put time into them, upgrade them and make them feel like part of there company. As far as I'm aware Jagex make very good profit and can afford to put time and money into these forums - but like the rest of the game profit comes first, website, including game comes second, third, forth . . .

Well.. to put it to perspective, there used to be over 300 Forum Mods.... and close to 2000+ players on the forums at a time, much like how Reddit now has a constant 4-5K players on at any time.

And Ramen posted an update on his Twitter, then reposted it to Reddit for those who don't use Twitter. No reporting of it anywhere on the forums, except for my forum thread in General here - which I'll try to keep updated as much as possible.

It really is sad at the state these forums are becoming. Especially when JMods on stream not too long ago confirmed that they don't even bother reading the HLF: Feedback subsection. I had a thread about it's removal because of what the JMods said on stream which had a lot of support by the currently active HLF community, and it was ignored three times by Mod Lee...

Players can give feedback on their chosen platform: forums or Reddit (as they have been doing for years now) and Jagex are taking it upon themselves to read through both platforms (potentially more).

I fail to see how this is putting convenience of the JMods above the players. If anything it's the other way around.

Fun fact, Insight Venture Partners had some big holdings in twitter back in the day. It's not a coincidence so many jmods set up accounts there.

Also remember those google chrome glasses? Twitch golem or whatever that thing was called. Those scummy watch ads to earn runecoins sites?

Seems like jagex has been in bed with everyone -but- reddit. Jagex likes reddit for the convenience. Unfortunately for them, they can't hide backlash on reddit like they can on the forums. So I doubt we'll ever see the main subreddit supported officially unless jagex can get into the moderating positions there.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!
