Without derailing from the focus of my question, can someone explain to me why it's frowned upon in the OS community? I'm not much of a talker, but I do see others doing so when I'm skilling. Whenever it's (summoning) brought up, it gets bashed on real quick.
So, why? I personally think it'd be great and useful; provides another money sink -- more reason to grind/play. But that's just my opinion. Like me, you guys have one too.Clever, aren't you, summer child.
Some of the people against summoning see it as making the game significantly easier, given that they aid you in fights, as well as carry items/essence for you, speeding up some of the skills like prayer & runecrafting
Personally, I don't mind either way if it's added or not
I believe the primary reason for the general negative opinion around the summoning skill is for how powerful the familiars were. Many players considered summoning to have ruined multiple aspects of the game like Pvming or even Pvping due to how overpowered the familiars were.
Furthermore, I believe that players also just associate rs3 related things with something negative. This is also what I feel is the case with regards to the dungeoneering skill (which I would like to see re-implemented as a mini-game with a re-balanced rewards shop.)
I would like to see summoning added to oldschool in a re-balanced state as I believe it has potential to be a great skill.
Here is it in a nutshell. Some people think that getting a mob to fight for you is too easy. Some people think that getting a mob to fight for you is great. Some people think that getting a mob to carry things for you is too easy. Some people think that getting a mob to carry things for you is great. Some people think that getting a mob to give you things like runes or charges for glories for you is too easy. Some people think that getting a mob to give you things like runes or charges for glories for you is great. Some people think that getting charms the way they had was too hard. Some people think that getting charms the way they had was great.
There are so many things that people loved or hated. There is few that are in between on all of them. Some people hated all of these. Some people loved all of them. Some people hated one, and loved the rest, while others hated more and loved less.
Getting enough people to support any change would be hard. Getting people to support no change would be impossible.
1) It changed the combat level from 126 to 138. A 138 combat (or even more idiotic, 126 + 12) would ruin the feel of the game.
2) Familiars made PVM way too easy, and it's already too easy since we have no risk. It's ridiculous. It also made some forms of Skilling easier just because it could.
3) It would be especially annoying to train for people who already maxed their Combat & Slayer and don't really care to do that much more of it just to collect charms.
I am sure there are more reasons, but it's a horrible idea and completely ruins the Old School feel. Warding would be FAR better than Summoning.Long live the Wilderness. Long live risk vs reward in PVM. Long live 2006.
