Maybe you are just unlucky.

Asides from the rewards depending on luck, I actually think the Guantlet is about the only interesting new content in Priffdinas, especially to those who haven't played Dungeoneering in RS3. Now that they can get a tiny taste of the DG mechanics in OSRS. Nice stuff. :)

Agreed. Sounds like awful luck tbh

The Gauntlet is very clearly roguelike inspired (though I have trouble even calling it roguelite), and part of that style of content is RNG and luck. At first, before you've got the thing mastered, it will take a whole bunch of attempts before things go your way and you get it done, but as you improve you'll find you do better and better even with worse and worse luck.

To be totally frank, I think the Gauntlet doesn't have enough RNG, but part of that is because it is designed to be fairly quick. A run has a hard cap of ten minutes on preparation. In my opinion, one of the most fun parts of this style of game is being forced to adapt to what the game gives you, and the Gauntlet is honestly way too reliable (and generous) in that regard.

Other roguelike and roguelite games can take hours for a single run - that then ends in abject failure. By comparison, the Gauntlet is extremely short, and relatively forgiving.

Now, admittedly, part of this is by necessity, for a wide variety of reasons. But still, as a huge fan of roguelikes (and developer of one, for that matter), seeing people getting frustrated after single-digit numbers of attempts is weird to me.

I still feel that DG is a lot different, also because it's a skill and it's F2P as well.
And it can be trained with friends, but I see what you mean. Maybe the mechanics are kinda similar.
