Where did you learn about runescape lore?

Was it from the main game itself? Was it from the forums? Was it from reddit or other fan made websites?

Personally for me it was from Armies of Gielinor and runescape lore based quests, but literally over 80% was from AoG as it's set around the time where every god in Gielinor got in contact with the terrain. It shows the expansion of the armies of the main gods during the third age. Every bit of the history is understood as you go along the missions, and even the intro gives a bit of info. The description of the missions in the campaigns sure is not necessarily fantastic, some of them just say "Saradomin's forces lurk and twitch here, crush them" without giving too much context, but you get what I mean.

Anyway, that was my story, would be interesting to read yours. ;)

Forums and in game mainly. Though wiki can be inaccurate at time, it could at least point someone in the right direction. Though asking questions was a good way as well, just had to look out for the opportunities. The purpose of adventure is to shine light into dark places,

Interesting I only used the wiki to look up stuff about the Mahjarrat but not really lore.

Since 2014, I've been using the forums mainly, however, I did know a lot of lore before this, for example, I learnt about Zaros in 2011, roughly when I first started playing the game, whereas most new players (at least back then), were usually first introduced to Saradomin, Zamorak and Guthix.
The odd thing, I can't remember where I learnt all of my knowledge prior to using the forums.

Nowadays, I learn most of the lore and other game related information from the forums, or in game.

By "Where did I [you] learn about lore?", do you mean 'where I really learned that Runescape lore has depth' and subsequently became interested in it, or 'where I go when I want to know more of/about the lore' ?

I'll answer both:

-I first learned about the depth of Runescape lore by finally giving one of the 'Lores & Histories' a read.

The one I read was Twice Burnt.

I remember I had only clicked on the link because I thought it was the article for the quest release (I did quests for rewards), and had done the same thing a few months prior with 'The Song from Before the War' lore tie-in to 'One Piercing Note'.

There were other things prior to that that had piqued my interest: Daemonheim and the quest One Piercing Note, which I had only not skipped through because it was the first fully voice-acted quest. None of them quite stuck for me, but Daemonheim did become my first 'lore obsession' when I got into it.

-For learning about lore, I'll typically just go on the wiki and look up quest/book transcripts. I might skim an article relevant to what I want to know more about for sources, namely in-game books & relevant quests, so I mostly stay true to what is put directly in game.
Facts > Speculation/Assumption, if you will.

I do discuss/look at things on the Forums, but that's mainly for speculation/theories/debating/obscure or new things.

Official sources - The game, Lores and Histories stories, JMOD quotes... and the RuneScape official novels. Seriously, not enough people read those, when they should be *required* material for people as crazy about the lore as some folks here are (myself included *cough*). They were written specifically to act as an introduction to the world, the various kingdoms and religions and politics. You get a lot of juicy details and insight into characters and factions that isn't necessarily found in the game itself (though Jagex has been incorporating a lot more novel lore into quests and things as time goes on). "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you[...]For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?

Never noticed any of the quotes by the JMods, so my whole journey was as I said at the start. But it's very interesting seeing how people learnt about lore.

I learned about it mostly from ingame/forum sources with the occasional L&H story. Mostly because back when I first started that was basically all we had to go through if we were interested in it and I suck at breaking habits like that :P

Sorry, clarifying, my ramble that took up most of my post was talking about the official novels, not about the JMod quotes. :P

The game. I never really got into lore until I decided to get into Questing. The more I quested, the more I delved into the lore. The more I delved into the lore, the more I became interested in it.

People who aren't into the lore of a game honestly confuse me. I don't understand how you can call yourself a "fan" of a game if you don't understand the storyline of it. Following the story and forming your character based on it, that's the whole point of an RPG game.
