We all know Seren is going to be in the quest, Naturally.

But after the livestream yesterday I had a thought I'd like to share.

If you recall it was Seren who, with a bit of contempt, said that she taught the Mahjarrat how to rejuvenate and reproduce via two rituals, One would drain Mahs power and the other would drain them of the same power and feed it back into Mah.

You see we learned the starting point of the quest is that all the Mahjarrat are rapidly losing power, more so than ever before, which means rituals will have to take place much much more frequently. Which just won't do for those of us in their respective factions. We are quite fond of our Lich friends. Kharshai is cool too I guess.

So both Zaros and Zamorak rally their respective sides up and go exploring to the Ritual sites on both Gielinor and Freneskae (Oh by the way, Ritual of the Mahjarrat FINALLY CONFIRMED A REQUIREMENT FOR SOMETHING) which leads quite nicely into the two of them meeting.

But I'm getting a bit off track, What I'm wondering is how this starts to begin with. I doubt Mah is the culprit. I think she is the likely one to point fingers at. she's simply a creature running on instinct and tantrums.

I think it's Seren. She was the one who passed down the knowledge after all, whose to say in her misguided quest to stop Zaros she cranked it up to 11 in order to doom an entire race. to commit Genocide, to weaken his faction in order to try and stop his ascension?

Do share your thoughts and varying theories.

....Sooo....why do you think Seren is in this? Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

TLW is required, and Seren would otherwise be the only surviving 'child' of Mah left out of the events of the quest if she weren't to show up.

That being said, I have my doubts that Mah or Seren are responsible.

Is...it not totally obvious by the title?

"Children of Mah". Seren is her Daughter.

And what makes you doubt it's either?

Only Seren knows the inner workings of the rituals, enough to teach it, and only Mah benefits from the Mahjarrats power being sapped all at once.

I doubt that Seren did this stuff deliberately to stop Zaros or anything like that. She states in her broken form before TLW that she went wrong somewhere along the way when she showed the Mahjarrat the rituals, and that they became violent. It's possible that she intended them to return to Mah so she might be cured, but she didn't predict that they would end up fighting each other to pick a sacrifice.

As for the Zarosian faction, she mentioned in the memoriam device that she would have helped Zaros with the ilujanka problem if she wasn't occupied with the elves. She also said that the Empire secured peace in the world and ensured that Tirannwn would be untouched; this is also apparent when Zaros ordered Char and co to check on the Serenists and report back, without being detected. This suggests that Zaros was worried about her as a sibling. And when it comes to her relationship with him:

Player: "But I thought you and Zaros didn't get along?"

Seren:
"I distrust, despise and sometimes even hate my brother Zaros. But I also love him. Whatever comes between us, whatever trials we face, he is still the only brother I will ever have. So forgive me if I dislike someone trying to take him from me."

Player: Are you happy she's returned?

Zaros:
"Yes. Does that surprise you? Whatever we are, however many times we squabble, we are still the closest to family either of us will ever possess. Seeing her whole again means there is hope that we may yet reconcile."

These statements suggest that although Seren said that she would stop him from transcending, she isn't going to kill him. And also that Zaros wants to patch things up with her and make sure she's safe, as he confirmed to Serenist players in FOTG.

Sliske's her son. I don't think he's showing up either. As for TLW...it involves, Zaros so that may be why.

Sliske isn't showing up? Well I guess that makes some sense considering both sides loath him now. He might not even need the rituals anymore.

It's already confirmed on stream Seren is going to be there :P

As for Sliske, the little synopsis we've been given makes me a bit surprised he isn't going to be there. He's no god so isn't immune from eventually needing a ritual, and it's affecting all Mahjarrat, even Azzanadra.

Could be the Zaros/Tuska situation. He could intervene and do something, but why bother coming out into the open when he knows others have it handled for him? Besides, he has his endgame to prepare for, Which will be very soon after.

I never said she'd want to kill Zaros, but she'd kill those who are the most useful to him to halt his plans, that would be his Mahjarrat.

I know Zaros wants to reconcile, but that won't be a simple hug it out cutscene. I dare say maybe it could even be an optional outcome.

I think this paves the way nicely for ramifications for The Light Within. The majority of us don't have a complete Seren, she could be in the wrong frame of mind thinking this is the right thing to do, as for a complete Seren, perhaps a little varying on the reasoning.
