The Divine energy vats contain what Alternate Guthix ripped from the 4 main gods instead of just kicking them out. If he took it all then yeah, they be dead. I suppose metaphorically ripping off their limbs and beating them to death with them, beats slamming a door in their face while they try to kick it back down. Isn't it entirely possible that they just gathered energy left over from ~4000 years of warfare?

Not if the brain in a jar is to be believed. Seems we made a big difference both to the mortals and gods alike.

They aren't dead, but Fenkenbrain said Guthix drained much of their divinity. So I guess they're still out there but a couple tiers lower...?

There is one big hole in the entire :'Guthix made you unable to absorb the SoJ's power',

In Dishonor Among thieves Zamora states that he and sliske can 'leech' power from the SoJ and you can't since you are immune to divine energy, which guthix gave you during the world wakes.

Which would explain it, if you only ever used the SoJ after meeting Guthix, which you don't, you use it twice and yet don't gain anything permanently from it, while Zamorak climbed an entire god tier from just tapping the stone once,

so how does that work?

Out of the times we've touched the stone without being the World Guardian, we first briefly investigated it (drawing primarily knowledge from it) and later 'accidentally' brushed up against it (from which, we once again primarily drew knowledge).

And we did get to keep that knowledge.

On the other hand, V's brief contact with the stone appears to have drawn upon his aspirations for heroism granting him strength and power, but that still wasn't enough to fully push him into godhood as he ascended quite a while afterwards.

And as for Zammy being able to leach an entire tier from the stone, he had the added benefit of deliberately trying to drain power from the stone as well as practice doing so from the times the stone was in his possession.

Magic.

I see the SoJ as something you can either tap into and release the power when it tries to pull itself back out of you, or try to hold onto and in doing so fuse yourself to the stone, causing a dependency on it permanently, always craving more power (and thus leading the dragonkin right to you).
Headcanon Haven, where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

well problem when we touched the SoJ for the first time we did gain immense power to fight the demons summoned by Lucien, yet we for some reason lost that power which is just dumb, when V touched it he gained power permanently and when Zamorak touched it he regained his lost power all in a second. So I don't think that the knowledge you gain counts, after all it's not a conduit for knowledge someone just left a major plothole

A few things:

1. We did keep some of the power, you channel it for the xp rewards (this is explained in game).

2. V did not ascend from gaining power from the SoJ. As is explained in Hero's Welcome, V later went on to slay a god and properly ascended at that point. What V permanently gained from the stone was some power (allowing him to pursue heroism as he had been born stunted) and the knowledge of how to craft runes.

3. Zamorak is also a god. He has a lot more power than you by simple virtue of that, which could allow him to better hold on to the SoJ's power. Add on the fact that he had prior experience (most likely many many years) using the stone, and it is no surprise that he's able to draw and keep the stone's power better than the player.

4. The stone is a conduit for knowledge. It always has been. Each time we've touched it, we've learned of past events. V learned how to Runecraft after touching it. Sliske claims he draws knowledge from it regularly. Phalaks, a dragonkin, tells the player that one can draw knowledgeable from the SoJ. Yes, it is a conduit for knowledge as well as power.
